Damaged rims from tire installer, options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday, I brought my winter tires to Town Fair Tire to get mounted and when they finished, all 4 rims have damage on the outter lip. Also, most of the damage is on the inside of the outter lip, so it could only be caused when the tire was off the rim.

I spoke to the manager, he says he doesnt know how that would happen since they don't touch the wheels. The regional manager came by today and he's also saying the same. They are not claiming any responsibility, but after a lot of negotiating, he would pay for 2 of my wheels to be refinished.

I called my insurance today and they said they typically don't cover damage like this, but they'll see what they can do. I have a bunch of pictures from the past month, but none from the day of/before the install.

I don't feel I should settle, but not sure what else I can do at this point. Thoughts?

This is typical of all shops when they damage your car. This happened to me with a set of wheels with an inexperienced / redneck tire person. in the end the shop paid to have all the wheels refinished. I wouldn't take no for an answer and if they aren't willing to own up take em to court! YELP, BBB, all the steps to insure they repair the damage.

Agree with Mr. Corey. I did a lot of research on my 19's before I brought them to a shop to mount and balance, and it paid off. Actually did have one shop tell me that >19" they could not promise they would not damage the wheels, and referred me somewhere else.

Another place told me they should've charged me more because the wheels had pretty large lips.

This was not my normal go-to tire place. I only went here because I had a large bolt in my tire and couldn't travel far, this was the closest location.

I hear ya. Makes things tough. Still agree that you should keep pressing them, lawyer up if you have to, and post some feedback on Yelp, BBB, Google, etc. I know that I use Yelp and Google a lot, and those are blemishes most companies do not like to have.

Unfortunately your first mistake was to go to Town Fair Tire. They are absolutely the worst. I speak from both first and second hand experience. It sucks yoy didn't have a choice.

I'm sorry about the wheels though, that sucks!

Just keep being that squeaky wheel that annoys them. They will end up fixing it for you. Do you have any before images of the wheels so you can prove your case a bit better? Facts will often stump people when they are trying to act like it wasn't there fault

    Cash or credit card?
I believe you can dispute the charge if you used a credit card?

I will agree with this 100% I run a online store and I get credit card charge backs from the dumbest things ever. Customer wins 98% of the time regardless of the reason. CC companies side with customers

    I

    HATE

    Town Fair Tire!!!!

I went there once out of convenience, and had same issue, along with their complete incompetence...these asshats couldn't even balance my wheels correctly. After the second time they tried to correct my vibration issues, they tried to tell me that my ball joints were worn. I called bullshit because I had just replaced all front control arms a month prior. I ended up going to my regular guy, and they fixed my balance issues.

    Definitely dispute the charges!
