    Car seat recommendations for S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm wondering what everyone is using as a car seat in their S4. I know previous threads have talked about the Recaro Performance Booster which is front facing 1 year + only. I need rear facing for now and would like it to last as long as possible for my 8 month old.
I got the Graco 4ever and while it's decent, I do lose some room for the two front seats. Anyone have any recommendations for a long lasting, low profile, and preferably sporty looking child seat?

    Thanks.

I run a graco mysize 65 for my 3 year old. It does rear facing as well as forward facing. He's had it since he was probably 18 months. Sadly there's not a ton of room in the rear seats so you will likely have space issues no matter the seat but he can fit in the seat comfortably forward facing and I can sit in the driver seat comfortably.

Yeah I've seen them before but I'm out of town at the moment and my search on mobile keeps saying no results found. Even to your link.

I have two that work and two that don't.. I'll try to remember to post up the brands of both later this evening.. The ones we have in my wifes car - I think they are Boulevard don't even come close to fitting.

my chicco zip fit works perfectly .. even now my son is 35 inches at 21 months he still some what fits.. unfortunately he is too young to go front facing but too tall for the 30 .. 30 means 30 inches 30 pounds.. he is still safe though because he is 25 lbs

We just got the peg perego atmosphere infant. Haven't used it yet, but test fit just fine. Gotta slide the passenger seat up a bit but not to bad.

    Get a convertible car seat.

The Britax ClickTight Boulevard is great and worked well in the S4, but it is bulky. We have used it from the day we brought our son home from the hospital, to now at ~18 months.

The Safety 1st Guide 65 fits rear facing in the 911 and made for compact cars, so it is definitely "low profile".

Britax > Safety 1st, unless you are on a tight budget and/or have a small car. The Britax is built like a tank, and the ClickTight feature is awesome. I would call the Safety 1st "adequate".

In case you did not know: You can go to Babies 'R Us to test fit car seats.

I have a Diono Radian. You can put it in the middle and still fit smaller adults in the left and right back seats.

I have the Evenflo Symphony Platinum or whatever it is, fit fine behind the passenger seat (rear facing). Still decent room in the front. My son is only one and getting him in and out is getting harder and harder as he grows. I put the seat behind the passenger seat to use the UAS hooks, so much easier.

Im sure once we switch it to front facing it will allow for more room, which is "recommended" not till 2. Doubt that will work in the S4, maybe the wives Rav4

I had two Dione Radians in my B7 A4 no issue. Front facing on right, rear facing in middle. I now have those seats in a 8V S3. Have to roll the front seats a little forward, but fits. For rear facing Diono sells a foam "riser" which allows from t seats to go back a little further

Definitely will. Was just stating the the Evenflo model can be fitted in the rear facing position and allow for decent room upfront as well.

Thanks for all the input. Almost everyone uses something different so I guess lots of good options. Something behind the passenger seat is definitely appealing instead of the middle.

I suggest finding a baby store that will let you fit the seat in the car. I have used quite a few different seats for the kids. I have used recaro convertibles in the past, but the new models are getting much larger, so probably won't fit well in the s4 as a rear facing.

My son just turned 9 months old today and he too has out grown this infant car seat, which had a 30" height limit. He used the Cybex Aton Q as an infant seat, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an infant, no fitment issues. Highly regarded in terms of safety, you can check the independent crash test results online.
    cybex-online.com/us/carseats/atonq.html

(some one earlier in the thread mentions that their child is 25 lbs and still can use their infant seat, I believe that is a misstatement, unless I misread the post. Usually the height/weight limit is either or, that is the way it is for the seat my son uses. You can use the seat up until the child either reaches 30 inches or 30 lbs, or whatever the limit is. So once either limit is reached, you must discontinue use of the seat.)

As of the OP's questions, since my son has outgrown his infant see, I have ordered the Clek Fllo for him. http://clekinc.com/fllo (Their Foonf model is awesome as well)
This car seat allows the child to be rear facing for a long time past the recommened 2 years of age. Remember that the safest position for any child in a car is rear facing, the longer you keep them rear faceing the better. I plan to keep my son rear facing well past age 2, some parents go up to 5 years old or older.

Again, this is one of the safest car seats for a child, I am a very safety oriented parent. Note that all seat must meet minimum government standards in order to allowed into the market, but there are some seats that just go way beyond those minimum and this is one of them. I haven't test fitted this seat in the S4 but I don't think it will be an issue, this is a pretty compact seat, you can fit 3 across in a sedan. And I don't mind giving up a couple of inches in leg room if it means I will have comprise the safety of my son. My balls can stick to my butt checks for a little bit on the drive. Honestly, I don't think a couple of inches makes that much of a difference.
I feel that the Clek Foonf and Fllo are the safest seats on the market (I'll let you do your own research on this), and the only reason I didn't get the Foonf is because of the weight. We are only getting one seat for now and didn't want to have to lug around a heavy seat between cars. Both these seat have crumple zones, so if you ever get in an accident, the seat will drop and absorb the impact, awesome technology for a car seat.
This is my opinion on car seats, some of you my have different thoughts but this is how i feel.
btw, the seats I mentions are a little on the pricey side, not sure what your budget it.

We just switched from an infant car seat to a convertible car seat in our B8 avant and we went with a Clek Fllo. They're not bulky at all (clean, minimal lines) and have a narrow profile like Diono car seats so you can fit three across. But you're going to lose front seat legroom no matter what car seat you select, specifically when installed rear-facing.

Resurrecting this thread... does anyone happen to know if it is possible to fit 2 car seats NEXT to each other in the back? ie:
britax clicktight in one of the outward positions (directly behind passenger or driver)
chicco keyfit 30 in the middle

    Thanks!

I’ve had the diono radian for my daughter for the year I’ve had the car and it fits great. Two of them should fit in the back (forward facing). It’s very slim so it has the room. You could use it in a spot for forward facing for sure with another brand in the other spot. Pretty sure there won’t be much leg room for the driver no matter what seat is behind you though.

Ha, thought this was the thread in the TT forum when the notification popped up, but same advice with the diono will work with the S4 for sure.

For the people that have the convertible seats, is there an issue with your kid(s) slumped over when they're sleep? That has been my main issue with the Recaro convertible seat that I have

diono radian rxt ( with angle adjuster foam bottom -purchased separately) i have 2. 1 for my rear facing baby and one forward facing for my other kid. for rear facing its kinda tall the back rear so it hits the front seat and front seat needs to be pushed a little forward. my wife who sits there is 5’3 and feels fine. i also feel fine sitting front passenger at 5’6. i’ll take pics in a bit

I second this Diono RXT. I have a rear facing child, usually put them on the passenger side and same issue with having to put seat forward, if I have to, I do put him in the middle and get pretty good clearance for both passenger and driver. Little snug but I got it due to ratings and the fact that it’s slimmer then some. It’s a heavy guy but well worth it. Great company as well.

agreed i got them due to the ratings and build construction. very solid car seat and if u decide to travel by plane with them they fold too. they can be pricey but i think it’s worth it. we have 4 of them (2 in each car)

i think they’re on sale right now too

Oh yes forgot to mention, great for strapping into the plane when traveling. Only thing to keep in mind is seat space on different airlines. Some airlines aren’t as spacious and so you’ll have to forward face whereas some have enough space for rearward facing. Can get a carrying strap, bag and other little things to make it more travel friendly. Overall solid seat that’s suppose to last you many years beyond initial purchase

I know this is an old thread, but for people who actually use search and are wanting to know, thought I would show how my seat fits with a 2.5yo in the seat! Seat is Diono radian rxt. Front seat is all the way forward with the the back slightly reclined. He can put his feet on the back, as well as reach the center vents with them.
