VCDS won't connect to engine controller/module

Hi everyone, is there a reason why VCDS won't connect to my engine controller but will connect to all of the other modules?

It just seems so random that when i try to run the engine diagnostic the controller cannot be found..

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm just trying to check codes/pending engine codes. Not sure what module that exactly is...

Ok, so you have gone into options and made sure you have that all working?

Everything else is working. I can connect to all the other modules besides the engine module.

Also, I was running the auto scan with the both abs connectors under the hood and it completely drained my battery. The interior lights worked but the alarm chime, my key fob and the headlights would not work. VCDS was still.able to auto scan that car multiple times after it died with no mention of the car not being able to start.

Charge your battery, and keep it charging while you scan it. A drop in voltage will cause all kinds of communications issues. Also there are various engine modules, on my car there are several and only the common area one works.
