How often should you do a carbon clean?

It's been 20K since my last CC and while I think the traction control does not kick in as often as it used to, I'm not completely sure there is a difference in performance. What's your frequency?

Every 15-20k miles seems like a reasonable interval if you believe there is a significant performance difference. Some here have observed carbon buildup after even 5k miles.

Just got my first CC yesterday at 77k km's. Needless to say, intake valves were COMPLETELY caked. CC done and a new ecu tune made the car feel so much more alive. There is no exact frequency in which you should be CC'ing a car, every car builds up carbon at different rates. In my case I'm going to try and get them done every 30-50k km's.

I'm about to go in for my first carbon cleaning. The shop recommended installing a water – methanol injection kit at same time; not to increase power, but to clean the valves and avoid any future carbon buildup. Apparently they install at least one per week for GTI owners dealing with the same carbon buildup issue. Does anyone here have any hands-on experience with the WMI on the RS4 V8? Is it worth it?

You can search on it. To my knowledge, it made no difference in the carbon build up.

x2. to my knowledge it won't make a difference on our cars. The only thing I've heard that may make a difference is replacing your oil separator if it has gone bad. They tend to get very hot and may degrade over time...

15k. infact, if you pull a manifold ~1000 miles after a carbon cleaning, you will be sickened that its already built back up...
