    Accessory drive noise

There's the video of the noise. A high pitch whine.

-The noise goes away with the serpentine belt off.
-Flushed the power steering and cleaned out the resevoor filter. -With the car on jacks I moved lock to lock over and over until the fluid didn't drop anymore.
    -Noise still exists after flush.
    -No bubbles in PS reservoir.
-Noise does not increase or decrease at all when moving the steering wheel.
-Noise increases/decreases with rpm's. Ex. When at idle and you try to close windows that are already closed and rpms dip below idle, noise softens with lower rpm. Also sounds like a pig about to be slaughtered on the walking dead at higher rpms.
-No difficulty with steering, never soft or stiff.

The noise sounds very similar to a dry PS pump.. But none of the symptoms are there.

    What's the deal?

Did you feel the roller on the tensioner, the idler, alt, compressor? Guessing bearing in one of those.

No speakers on this computer so...

Mechanics stethoscope should pinpoint it. Click Could probably snag one from Harbor Freight for cheap if you have one close by. Even Advance Auto or Auto Zone will have them.

When you pull the accessory belt off, spin each pulley by hand. You should hear or feel the bad one, most likely a bearing in the idler or tensioner.

Is the PS pump pully supposed to spin freely? The alternator and ac compressor spun free, smooth and clear of noise from what I remember. It was late and I was in a hurry but I think the PS pump took some effort to spin.

Had the same issue, turned out to be the Idler Pulley, there was a ton of play in it. Replaced and whining gone.....

Just found out it was the same thing this week. That bastard was wobbling like crazy. It ended up snapping off on me. Did you torque it down or just tight? And you don't have to pull the front clip forward do you? Just jam your tools up/down there?

You don't need to do anything with the front clip. 15ft/lbs for the idler roller if I remember, so just tight really (I think I replaced this from below). Also, is there much movement in the tensioner arm when the engine is running? That could also be a contributing factor if it's still the original, very quick to replace that. Worth putting on a new belt IMO since you had issues with the pulley, give it a good look over at the very least.

Thanks for the info. Not sure about the arm, I'll have to take a look when I get the pulley back in. And the belt, I went to order a new one and noticed a VIN split in the 2004 model year, I have an 03 chassis, 04 motor after a swap.. And I don't know the VIN from the donor car.. I have to grab the old belt now and try to match that.
