    B7 RS4 or B8 S5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have asked this question in both the B7 RS4 and A5/S5/RS5 sections of the forum to try and get as many opinions (I expect some bias!)

So I'm choosing between my current B8 S5 and a B7 RS4 which has popped up locally. I've had my 112,000 miles 4.2 6MT 2009 S5 for 2 weeks, I love it. But the throw out bearing is becoming noisy and I'm having some clutch issues already. Dealer said they will put that right so that's not a huge concern.

The local RS4 in concern has 113k and had a new clutch, rotors pads and carbon cleaning done in July. I know this for a fact as the owner of the Indy shop I use is a close friend and showed me the RS4s service record.

I've always loved the idea of an RS4, I must admit it was my dream car in high school not so long ago. I also love my S5 and I think with some JHM supercharger love it will be more of the speed demon it deserves.

In any case, PERSONALLY which one would you go with? I plan on supercharging either one of them by the summer time.

Yeah, I figured as much. Hopefully people will chime in and explain their justifications, I like to be as informed as I can before pulling a trigger

I'm not a fan of the RS4 at its current price. $35k for a decent one with acceptable mileage? No thanks. There are so many newer cars that outperform it and are more refined in every aspect.

The price isn't so much the issue to me as much as what I get out of the car I suppose. Best of both worlds would be my S5 with the RS4 engine I suppose. I think I need to drive the RS4 and see how I feel

Look north of the boarder. A JHM supercharged RS4 (this thing had absolutely EVERYTHING JHM makes for a B7 RS4 and legit Vorsteiner hood) just sold for sub $28k Canadian. That's roughly $21k USD...

This RS4 would cost me no more than I paid for my S5. I just need to convince myself which one I like the most

The S5 isn't exactly a rare car. I'd go with the RS4 simply because the resale value will always stay higher than the S5. Having said that; I'm partial to the B7 platform.

Unfortunately the RS5 is way out of the budget for now. It's pretty much either one of these 2 specific cars with the RS4 being local. Admittedly this is my daily driver so comfort is a huge deal, with no kids yet or in the near future 4 doors is not a priority.

I think supercharging my S5 and bringing it into the solid mid 550hp range will make it a "better" car than the RS4. I think the S5 definitely beats the RS4 on comfort.

Sorry guys, I know I'm rambling on!

People don't say they saw an S5, they tell everyone that they saw an RS4 though.

I think it comes down to two different scenarios. If you really want modern tech and a newer vehicle, go S5. If you want a unique car that stands out from the crowd and are willing to forego some modern comforts in exchange for raw power (but also more maintenance due to age), go RS4.

I think I'm going to have to try and get this RS4. Something tells me I won't regret it, probably much easier to get back into an S5 than it is to find an RS4 local again in Idaho
