If you swap the physical ECU and the hardware all matches with it's new home I don't see how wouldn't work. Most of the time you can't 'copy' or clone the tune due to obvious reasons. But if you can adapt the ECU to another car then it should work. Many people get a spare ECU to put a tune on specifically so they can swap it around or keep it if they sell the car.
I'm sure if they really wanted to they could do some kind of 'vin lock' or prevent adapting of the ECU, but that would cost them alot of business probably.
