    Alcon brakes for the S3

I'm wondering if anybody knows of a company using the Alcon Mono block 6 piston calipers for their brake kit? I still have a set from my B5 S4 and they are fantastic calipers. Not sure if its worth it or just buy another new high quality brake system.
    Thanks for any input.

We have sold and installed quite a few of Alcon kits on other Audi/VW platforms in the past. Alcon makes a quality product I just think they are over priced. There are many other comparable quality kits on the market without breaking the bank. We stock, recommend and install a lot of Stoptech kits here. We even are running a overstock sale on MQB BBK's right now. Let me know if you have any questions

Most recent Trophy kit we did.

We have used VWR kits too with good results.

    Thanks,

    Greg

    Hi Greg,
That kit looks nice but it's almost $4000.00 That's why I was trying to re-use my Alcon Monoblock 6 piston calipers. I plan on tracking the car but don't require 6 piston. I'm guessing a good 4 piston kit with 340-350mm rotors should be fine with the right pads. I've driven a GTI with a Stoptech 4 piston, 332 rotor, whatever pads came with the kit, and I was impressed how they performed. Not my Alcon quality, but not the price either :)

4 piston 355mm stoptech is $2450 if the website is correct. Not terrible, although I prefer the brembos

    Revo uses Alcon, I found a 8V RS3 kit, but not a 8V A3/S3 one tho.

Thanks! That is definitely the famous Mono 6 Alcon Caliper used in their kit.

Revo has Alcon based kits for the 8V models featuring the Mono6 caliper and 355x32 or 380x32mm with a newer and more advanced floating system than with previous Alcon based kits.

Unfortunately the Mono6 used for the B5 models from back in the day will have the wrong pistons sizes for the 8V application. The nicest upgrade from the original style Alcon based kits that STaSIS used to produce is the upgraded floating system on the rotors which allows for more expansion with fully noise free operation.

Currently I could offer some discounting on these Alcon based systems from Revo and they are ready to ship for anyone interested:

Brake Package | Revo 355x32mm Front

With this sizing you've got options on wheel sizing and it will work with many factory wheels. You have the full monoblock caliper that provides one of the stiffest and lightest calipers available for these models along with the patented Alcon rotor technology. As you have probably experience, the Alcon systems do perform extremely well and equally as well on the street as the track, plus now you have a more advanced rotor that can handle higher temperatures than with previous generation kits.

For anyone interested in pricing or would like to discuss the kits more in depth don't hesitate to PM or email: [email protected]

What has to be done (if anything) to the rear brakes to have a "well matched" brake system? Thanks Alex for all the info.

Since these cars have a heavy front brake bias there isn't all that much more you can add with an upsized rear brake setup. My suggestion would be a more aggressive rear pad and ensure however that it's not too metallic for street use as it will just wear down the rotor quickly in standard daily driving and also make sure that it doesn't cause the rear to enter ABS activation before the front (rare but a possibility with a very aggressive pad at operating temp).

A larger rear rotor is mostly beneficial when you are running a lot of mechanical traction, aggressive race pads all around, running 9/10ths or harder and you see the stock rear rotor edge up outside of optimal operating temps.

Even the RS3 runs the same rear rotor however I do see a unique rear pad for the RS3. I would suspect it's a slightly more aggressive compound than the A3/S3 rear pad.
