An older driver hit me today, what's the best way to fix the door and what else to look for?

It looks like they only hit the door? Probably not.

I assume you're working with their insurance?

If you weren't at fault shouldn't your car be in a shop, shouldn't they figure out what should be replaced and what shouldn't be replaced? Since it'll be covered by insurance anyway?

New door minimum. Looks like some damage to the rear fender, but thats hard to tell from that one picture. Your door blade is bent as well so you'll need a new one of those, which is $300+ for an s-line one, new, unpainted.

Ouch! What idiots! It's even worse because now they'll have to mix up new paint and try and match it again rather than having it already made!

I've had an issue in the past with a body shop not correctly paint matching a body panel after an accident. They have agreements with the insurance companies that state they have to return the car to the condition it was in prior to the accident. I'm assuming they said they'll fix that (if not they should have) but it just sucks to waste more time driving back and forth etc.

I had a body shop replace a cracked headlight with a completely yellowed and dinged up one. It was supposed to be new OEM/Valeo. The annoying part is I didn't notice until the next day. So I had to drive 40 minutes away for them to exchange it for a brand new one from the dealer. I made sure to double check this one was good.

Body shops just don't give a shit. I think they just assume you don't really either...

Body Shops work the same way like doctors' offices, they rely on insurance companies. The better the insurance the more they make (or rake in). What you pay might be minimal but when they bill your insurance company that's when they really bank. So the key to them is to source the cheapest shittiest parts and bill for the most. In the end you'd still wind up paying more because your premiums will increase one way or another, whether you're at fault, or not. Fucking highway-robbery legal scams.

Hey! To be fair, I was hit twice in my b6 in a 4 year span. Once I was parked outside my house and the other time some dildo merged into me without looking and without a blinker. Both times the other party was at fault 100% and my premiums never went up. State Farm isn't the cheapest but they've been very fair and never batted an eye at coverage. USAA was what the other driver had in the second incident and they were INCREDIBLY slow to get their shit together, which was frustrating. Car was in the shop for a month, 2 weeks of which was just waiting for their assessor to come out to inspect the damage and verify the shops estimate. So dumb.

But yea the shop was just trying to pull a fast one, bill for an $800 new OEM, slap on a shitty junkyard part, Pocket the $700 difference.

My insurance rates are cheap with Wawanesa but I realized my premiums went up more than $100/year after they replaced a windshield for my car, and that's after forking out $300 in deductible. Earlier in 2016 my other vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run (typical Southern Calif). Guy took off after rammed behind while my gf was driving sustaining visual damages to the rear bumper. My insurance paid out (less $300 deductible) but went after the other party and got the deductible back. I have a feeling my rates will go up again. At times I feel like just switching to another company, but who knows what's honest. Been with them forever too.

I'm on the same boat. Accident happened 1/31/16 but I'm still dealing with multiple issues. Hit and run and other party was found after filing a police report. All pictures/eye-witnesses documented. However, even with AAA I still feel like I'm being treated as if it were my fault. Shame as I've been with insurance company for more than 20+ years. You don't realize how bad your insurance is until you truly need them.

So last night my wife and I go and when she unbuckles her seat belt we notice it doesn't retract as it should. I'm thinking they messed up something when replacing the rear door. Could I be wrong?

If they replaced the center pillar they could've twisted your belt up or something. If it's just slow to retract your belt could just be really dirty. I would double check that it still locks when you yank it just to be safe

Just want to say not all body shops are out to get the customer. I work in a shop. But a lot of it has to deal with who you are dealing with (shop) and what insurance you have. Some companies.. with animals and hands not naming any in particular are absolute garbage, some won't pay to blend silver even if the damage is right off the edge. Most try to source as cheap as possible parts some are decent most aftermarket crap.. even on brand new cars they will try to get aftermarket as much as possible.
Bodyshops have to more or less bend to the insurance company's will to even try to make money on some jobs and the shops get sh**ed on because the insurance companies are cheap dingbats.. I get that some shops do shoddy work to try to get as much money as possible. But not all.

Dont overlook how crappy insurance companies want to treat YOUR car that you pay hundreds a year for insurance, just to use it once and get raped.
Sorry for the long reply. Just don't want all shops to get bad reps when insurance companies are crap.
PS. To get back on topic the shop can just look in the computer and remix exactly what they sprayed on your car so I wouldn't worry about paint match.
And sometimes little things get missed but that shoulda been caught.

With the damage being in the back door and quarter I would hope the didn't need to do anything with the b pillar, if anything unlikely but if there isn't a quick disconnect for the door harness to body that's easily accessible maybe they thought it a good idea to pull off the interior trim to see what was going on with how to remove the wiring? Unlikely but possible

Never had any issues with State Farm. May not always be the cheapest, but they're generally competitive and they are easy to deal with.

No, I agree, you're right. There are some decent shops out there, one in a million that is if you live where I live. The same goes for indie service centers, heck, even the service department from our dealers. I used to work in the car industry from the late 80s through 2000. I've dealt with sales, service, insurance companies, warranty companies, body shops, indie shops, auto accessory vendors, donut shops, etc, etc, and I can tell you that 99.98% are in business for the big bucks. Not that there's anything wrong with profit and making money, but while raking in high premiums in exchange for mediocre products and services are just plain unethical - insurance companies and body shops do it all day long like there's no tomorrow. Also, stop for a moment and take a good look at your healthcare coverage and tell me if you are satisfied. The bottom line is: you will always get less and will continue to pay more, no matter how well you are covered.

Yeah, it's really crappy how businesses are being run now days I think a lot has to do with insurance companies greed. Yeah there are a lot of cut throat shops out there, just have to be careful and know where you are taking your car. For any repairs... look over your car in full, as soon as you get it back for anything. Easier to get things straightened with the shop..

They claim they didn't touch the inner pillar, it may just be a coincidence but I need to get it fixed regardless. I washed the seat belt by soaking in in water and simple green but it is still not retracting. Any other ideas?

Try moving the height adjuster on the b pillar see if that has any effect. Other than that, pull the b pillar panel and see if the belt is pinched by some trim... or look at the retractor itself see if it has issues with the trim out of the way? Go from there. Hopefully it's just getting stuck on trim..

Guess what....my insurance went up from $1,200/year to $1,800!!! The p.o.s. that hit my car (hit and run) affected this. My insurance paid out $1,300 for the damages and they are now raising my rates. I have perfect record, been with them for over 15 years, never made a claim and this is how they shaft me. My rate was $900 three years ago. After a windshield replacement which I had to fork out $300 deductible, then the rates went up to over $1,200 on the next year's policy, and now this - to $1800 after the hit-n-run which I am not at fault. So basically I am insuring these 'uninsured hit-and-run fucks' that's been plaguing our Southern CA streets!
I truly believe this is nothing but a one big fucking scam, a legal lobbied scam!

Hopefully it's just getting stuck on trim..
I did just that moved it up and down and it works fine now...

I had a similar situation with my previous insurance company, USAA. Switched over to Geico and premium dropped a lot, switched both home and cars to Allstate / allied and it dropped $1000 more. Then Teenager daughter started driving and car premium doubled, teenager son started driving and up it went again....

Insurance companies are as greedy as they come, I don't care who you have they will constantly be looking for ways and reasons to lift your rates as high as possible. Even with accident forgiveness you have to be with them for several years and then heaven forbid you file a claim you can't have another accident or claim for several years of your rates go up again.

I had an accident over the years ago and was looking for insurance maybe 1.5 years ago and one of the questions in the application was about having an accident within the past 3 years so that screwed me. And just this winter was searching again since my accident was out of the 3 years window.. but no! Now it's 5 years. From my experiences and seeing how they work on a daily basis coming to the conclusion that: Insurance companies are souless.

And they still treat you like sh** 15 years with 2 claims? You covered your accidents and then some with how much you paid in over the years on premiums, but that doesn't matter because you made the company pay out a fraction of the money you gave them so you can legally drive your car. It really can make you sick if you actually think about how much greed they have.
