Panic Has Set in APR STG 1 Tune

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay so ill start off by saying i thought it was a one time thing but that does not appear true...

    1- 2016 B8.5 1 year old 15k miles
2- stage 1 APR tune one month old

From rolling start 10 mph to dumping the gas pedal at 5500 RPMs i loose all power and go limp and the traction control light/symbol comes on., and my gas pedal is pointless.

If i come off the gas and just accelerate normal no issue. but if i dont come off it the pedal RPMS drops -because i have lost power- to about 35-4k rpm then takes off again and goes limp again at 5500.

I am calling RSW tomorrow but at first i couldnt replicate it but now i can pretty much when i want so panic has set it... help/advice please?

    Ugh.

Just went stage one and I've already noticed some oddities as well. Car rocks from side to side a bit when giving it gas in neutral. Only lasts a second, but it didn't happen before the tune. Feel a weird ticking when I rest my hand on the stick as well.

May need to excercise that 30 day money back guarantee.

FWIW, the tune makes a noticeable difference in acceleration in all areas, but if it's going to KO my engine it's not worth it.

Can't really help, but I have stage 1 and don't have the same issue. Maybe I'll horse it a little and see if I notice something similar since I'm pretty timid normally, but nothing similar so far. Most I notice is a delay in shifting up under harder acceleration, but nothing where I lose power or get traction control lights.

Did you check codes at all?

High torque,,,, turn off the traction control.. sport.. hold down for completely off...
The motor cuts out when it senses any loss in traction.. especially running e85...

This is exactly right OP, I have stage 2 and it happened to me when making a left through three lanes and almost shat myself, then I realized it's just ESC kicking in (electronic stabilization control) which can be disabled by holding down button

I will try this on the way home today i appreciate the feedback sincerely.

My knowledge of how the ECS system would/should work is that under slippage not simply higher torque output/imbalance. I have never experienced this in other cars i have driven with ECS enabled or un-enabled (Z06, SRT Viper, Mas GT, 350Z, STI to name a few but not in the same boat as A4).

But none the less i will give this a shot with my hopes up baring this is the fix then i will always have it off.

Side note**The 2/3 times i have launched her from a dig, i did not experience this- but cant recall which RPMS i shifted at.

I also am not running E85 just 93oct. Was a little disheartening so i hope you all are right cause CYBER Monday/Black Friday sales are around the corner and stage 2 has been knocking at my door.

I will still be calling RSW just to get there take, especially for the few gents who have subscribed- with pending tunes on the horizon.

Every week I read horror stories with APR tunes yet no one seems to go with other companies like Revo, GIAC, or Unitronic, why? I know they may issues too but I knew of people who had Revo tunes and never hear issues from them.

This literally has zero (0) to do with who tuned the car, as several people have explained, the ECS needs to be turned off. This could happen with Unitronic, GIAC, or REVO. A lot people get around it by just turning the Traction control off every time they get in the car. Problem solved.

I had the same issues. I would suggest changing the spark plugs and getting a new coil pack. I went with NGK for the sparks and the R8 or red for the coil pack

Just to update. Flipping the ECS to off not sport has fixed it. Can't comment on if Sport has. When I get stage 2 shortly. I will be upgrading coils and sparks. Then FMIC. The build continues. I haven't had chance to call RSW here in NJ who does my work. But I will touch base once I do. I want to see if they can custom fab a turbo back exhaust for me when I go STGE 2

Those things have absolutely nothing to do with the tune. I'm sure you are just paying attention to the car more now than you did previously.

As for the side to side rocking, that occurs in every single A4, tuned and factory. It results from the engine being longitudinally mounted in the car. The factory engine mounts are relatively soft and purposely allow for this rocking action to absorb some of the engines movement for comfort. If you want to stop the rocking, get firmer aftermarket engine mounts.
