Finally getting around to doing the motor mounts in the AR. I have a spare car so I'm gonna take my time.
For those that have done this; any tips or suggestions? Any information is appreciated. Thanks

I've only done this on an S4 but I think it's the same. Get a 13mm stubby ratcheting wrench. If you can get a flexhead even better. I think a 1/4 inch flexhead ratchet with a 13mm socket will work too.

It's the driver side that is a pain in the ass. Rather than fight your way to bolt on top just remove what's in your way. If I remember correctly you will need to remove the sway bar, disconnect one or two hardlines that are attached to the oil pan, and a few other things. Once you get in there you'll see.

I think the one thing that helped me the most was trimming the LONG stud that comes out of the bottom of the mount. If I remember right that stud seems about twice as long as it needs to be so you have to jack the engine up quite a ways to get it in there. I screw a nut down on the stud, then dremel about 1/2 off and it goes in easier.
Otherwise...lay under there, get a good look at everything and hope for the best.

ok...so after 1.5 weeks of making small progress every other night ( work was really busy ) i successfully changed out the motor mounts in the AR. Interesting enough, the drivers side is completely accessible from the bottom without removing anything but the intercooler and its hoses. it probably does take the same about of time or more if you were to remove all of the s**t in the way, but i didn't want to mess with the a/c compressor and belt ect. i did it with a stubby ratchet, a long sharp chisel/hammer and of course a ton of patience as that nut is in the most awkward/tight spot.
my drivers side mount was so shot that i just twisted off the bottom by hand once i removed the bracket, no wonder it was a pain in the a** to drive!
i have a couple of questions for the pros on here:

    1. i changed out the snub mount with an OEM "yellow one" and left the snub cage loose so it could settle in to place, then went for a short drive. when i went to tighten up everything up front i found the engine and the snub mount to be sitting higher then the snub cage will go. Now keep in mind the front carrier and bumper went on smooth like butter, everything lined up perfectly and it looks to be sitting just right. So as of right now i had to flip the snub cage upside down and was only able to get in 2 of the 4 bolts and the snub mount is resting on top of the cage. its like the bumper is too low, or the engine is to high, i did put in rs4 motor mounts, but they didn't seem to be that much taller then the ones i took out. I Just placed an order for an 034 snub so hopefully that is smaller then the yellow OEM one and will fit.

    2. For the past 4 months or so, i have had a whine coming from the engine anytime i'm on the throttle and between 2500-3000 rpms and in 4th, 5th or 6th gear...highway speeds. I thought it was to do with the mounts, maybe with the engine moving around, but it is still there. i was thinking maybe the turbos, but don't those make a high pitch "dentist drill" noise when there going out? my friend described it as an "air leak" when he heard it but my wife described it as a "whine". i was also considering the tranny, i have the 034 street mounts and i know that makes the tranny sit up higher, not sure if that could be the cause.

sorry for the long winded post, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Ok everyone.....

Now that Thanksgiving is over and you've no doubt stuffed yourself with food and drank yourself to a black out state, I need some help on my allroad.
In response to my previous post:
    1. I've got the 034 snub mount and am going to reposition the bumper and lock carrier when I put it on, hopefully will be able to lift the bumper up more.

    2. I'm going to drain and fill the tranny fluid with Motul 300 and see if that helps with the "maybe" tranny noise

Am I on the right track? Thanks guys
