I am just about to turn my engine upside down and remove the pistons and rods. Do I need a special tool to remove the rod bolts? IF so, which part do I need?

Also, for a stock 2000 2.7t APB engine, which cylinder ring kit is best?

I just did this. You will need an E socket to remove the rod bolts. I believe it is an E12.

E socket...Where can I find one? Also, where is the best place to get a piston ring kit?

My plan is to send the heads in to the shop and fix cylinder's 1 and 3. Leak down test = leak in cylinders 1 and 3 and to fix any problems found. So my plan is to just put new rings in the cylinders and to plasti-gauge the rods and mains. Once I get the bottom end torn apart, I will have a good idea of what repairs I need to do. If the bearings are within good tolerances, I plan to leave them, if not, I'll replace what's needed. I'm so used to Chevy's and I did not realize that the rod bolts are not press in as my SBC's have been. So, I guess I need new rod bolts too :( I found some on ECS tuning's site for a reasonable price :) .

    Thanks for the help!!!

I got mine from harbor freight. Your local parts store might stock a set if you don't have a harbor freight nearby. Or you can order em online here http://www.harborfreight.com/7-pc-14...set-67898.html

Since I'm replacing my rings as well I did a little bit of research and I personally came to the conclusion that I will go with Goetze. Some people buy the Grant brand which I think is like a 1/4 of the cost of the other suppliers. This is my first engine build and I sure as hell don't want to tear down this same engine again so I'm not gonna "cheap out", if you will. My build is to refresh the engine for increased power so I'm replacing bearings and putting aftermarket rods which come with the rod bolts so I can't help you there.

    Good luck with your build!
