    Carbon clean S5 V8

    Hi Guys!

Is there any time frame when do you need to do carbon clean? Mine is 60k miles now, some says don't wait until it reaches 75k miles? What is the normal rate to have the job done? My local shop quoted $1100.

I'm looking to do one at 60k as well. That sounds pretty high though. I've gotten quoted $600 from two well rated Indy shops.

I did mine at 65k and it was terrible. I had local quotes of ~$800

Did mine with Audi at 72k. Cost me $600. Swapped all injectors for an additional $1200.

I currently have 85k on mine and I'm gonna have a shop do the carbon clean soon. I was quoted ~$700ish for the job. Any recommendations in what else to replace while we're in there? I.e. Thermostat + water pump?

Currently at 135k and never carbon cleaned. Dealer just did another inspection last month and everything is good to go. If you drive the car properly hard, you won't get buildup issues (dealer's words not mine).

It's a good time to install JHM manifold spacers and a 034 intake hose.

Little update, I just had mine done and totally different feel after the clean, it has more power and throttle. I highly recommend if anyone is planning to have it done.

    Carbon clean S5 V8

I had planned to do mine when we had my upper manifold off to replace a sensor on my 2010. My friend who works at VW said they were already pretty damn clean. So we sprayed some carbon cleaner down the valve walls and it literally melted any carbon being it wasn't bad. Not sure if mine was ever done before by the previous owner. Car started up with a rough idle, obviously. But took it for a hard run to try and blow any crap out the exhaust. This was at 80k, car pulls awesome with no sign of loss of midrange. Car did feel like it ran smoother after spraying down the valves. Could be placebo as it already ran pretty damn good.

Friend has a 2008, at about 112k I think. He JUST got a random misfire code. We suspect carbon, and he will do new injectors while he's there.

If I still have my car at 115k-ish I'll do it again. This time full manual scrub.

So $1800 total for carbon clean. New injectors and them installed?

I hear such different prices on the carbon cleaning for the V8 engine. With these different prices, how are they cleaning them? Are they chemical, scraping or walnut blasting? That may have something to do with the difference in pricing. I had mine done with walnut blasting and the ports looked spotless afterwards.

Completely agree with having the JH Motorsports 8mm Spacers added during that service...

Labor cost me 8 hrs, depend on how much they charge in you area. Parts/supplies $300ish so it could go from $800 - $1100 easy.

It's one of those things that will probably swing +/- $500 depending on where you live, dealer rates vs indy and process. I quoted mine out as high as $1200 at the dealer, down to sub $600 for my indy. (Chemical soak then walnut blast)
Did mine at 65k when a CEL code for a misfire came on and I needed a new intake flap actuator. Separate issues but made sense to do the at the same time.
