Those with a tune (or without), which air intake do you have?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

as above, (or even those of you without a tune, feedback appreciated)

I know for stage 1 it isn't required, but for stage 2 for various tunes it is "recommended" while not required.
for example apr stage 2 on the sq5 goes from 455hp to 463hp with the addition of an intake.

    anyway,
i had the apr carbonio on my mk7 golf R, was a little too quiet for me, and also looking at the CTS , that might be a little too loud for me .
im not interested in trimming or custom fitting some of those that are made for other vehicles either.

i currently have the 034 throttle hose inlet installed on my sq5

    any suggestions?

034 Inlet, AFE dryflow filter and modified stock airbox (removed snow screen and enlarged inlet). The bottlneck is the throttle body.

034 inlet and modified oem airbox. I'm getting some issues with intake on my stg 2 tune, although it could be the TB.

I keep telling myself I'll snatch up all the intakes used i can and then test them to see what results are best for my driving via logging. I'm just too lazy to take the plunge though.

I'm waiting for the Ultracharger setup first before doing anything LOL.

I'm APR Stage 2 with no modifications to the intake at all currently.

I'm APR Stage 2 with the ECS Kohlefaser Luft-Technik intake. And Im very happy with it. I wanted something that you could only hear when you wanted to hear it. It's barely present when driving conservatively but when you stick your foot in it, it's loud.

Bought the RocEuro intake and, before it was even delivered, my buddy talked me out of it. And I'm glad he did. After watching numerous videos of the RocEuro, I quickly realized I'd be annoyed with the whine at almost all rpm ranges. You can almost hear it at idle. For some this is cool. But not for me. Plus the ECS looks ten times better than the R/E. Just my two cents.

That said, I have a RocEuro intake for a B8.5 S4 that is still in the box and hasn't even been unwrapped. Up for grabs. Hoping to get close to what I paid $350. Only had it a week.

Yeah it is considerably more but I'm glad I did it. I'm very anal about the look and I feel that I would have been instantly annoyed with the alternative

How is the fit? I've heard that the AWE doesn't fit perfectly, which is why I've been holding off on it.

Too bad they don't sell the ECS one without the intake hose. I've already got my 034 one.

It's solid. I had the shop that did the tuning install it all at once. Seems solid.

I'm running AWE S-Flo w/ carbon cover and 034 inlet. Absolute best combo in my opinion and a very noticeable difference vs OEM. I've settled on this and have tried APR Stage 1 & 2 intake and also CTS.

Also, if you have an SQ5... Some of these intakes designed for S4 may not fit well.

It's SQ5 specific when you order direct from AWE.

You can hear a little bit of whine, but not much. I'm also running AWE touring exhaust so that might drown out any noticeable whine that there would be without it.

To me, the ECS is all bling and no sting. The inlet pipe is small and so is the filter. Those are the 2 things that matter. The carbon cover is just aesthetics. AWE filter is proven to flow 30% better than OEM and is HUUUGE... biggest size that will fit in lower portion of OEM airbox. And of course the 034 inlet is a monster also. The inner diameter is the size of outer diameter of where it connects on both ends. Just my .02

Modified OEM airbox, 034 inlet tube, AFE S-Flo filter.

Very happy with the results, power increase was noticeable with just those mods. Then add on the NRDP and AWE Touring exhaust and the SQ5 gets after it pretty good right now. Next round of mods will be the EPL tune next year.

USP and a Unitronic Stage 1+. I enjoy the supercharger whine so having the extra noise there doesn't bother me. What bothers me is all the extra dirt and grime entering the engine bay through the air intake opening. I'm anal for keeping my engine bay clean so a little extra work is needed every few months.

maybe im missing something, but on the AWE intake, is it realistically just their S-Flo filter and a carbon cover/heat shield ?
filter says gains of 4-5hp and then jumps to +15 almost with the carbon .
    heat soak that much?

The installation of the carbon pieces removes some of the restrictive OEM components where air enters the box from front of vehicle.

No intake mod yet, but I plan on just getting a o34 intake hose and keeping the stock filter. But as for a tune I have the united motorsports tune. Not a lot of info on here but once I get a chance I'll get a dyno run.

The AWE intake is wide open in the front, Carbon box that screws into OEM lower.
You can run their S-Flo filter (oiled) or the OEM filter (you just have to clip one little edge).

Couple it with the 034 hose which is huge and no restrictions, and it's a good combo.

At first I noticed more whine, but I must have gotten used to it, because I do t hear it any more.
I'm not a huge fan of the whine. I like engine and exhaust note myself.

how big is the opening of the AWE vs OEM? significant or no?
