    Audi RS7 brake pads

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi, guys.

    I have 2014 Audi RS7.
It's time for me to replace front brakes (~20k miles).

I have a few questions with regards to that:

What would be your pick for the brake brand/model?
Where do you recommend buying it?
Is there a local store in Chicago area to sell them at a good price?
Do I need wear sensor(s) or can I reuse originals?
If I do need sensors, then how many and what would be the brand/model recommended for that?
Is there a reputable mechanic to do the job in Chicago N-NW suburbs?

If you have an answer to any of my questions please chime in. :)

Does this mean you're suggesting OEM brake pads and they come with OEM sensor prepackaged?

ecs has options that aren't OEM. on something this specific and rare, i would strongly recommended calling ECS, very helpful people

Looks like they only have 1 type in stock and in general their site doesn't look credible to me. Chat option didn't work either...
    Is there an alternative?

Im also in Chicago with a 2014 RS7. I have 26k miles and have been putting off doing brakes for a few thousand. Knowing this I have searched the forums and done lots of research on pads, rotors, ect. Aftermarket options for the RS7 is basically non existent. I was Not happy about shelling out $2100 for new front brakes/rotors but piecing it together myself and then finding a good private mechanic would be a huge amount of time and hassle and still could get close to that cost. If you find a way to do the whole setup cheap, good work man. Otherwise, just have the dealer do OEM. In a 560+HP car, brakes are cheap life insurance.

My rotors seem to be fine. I only need front brake pads. I can't make myself pay 2k for all that because it feels like you're getting screwed over. That feeling I don't like.

For comparison, have a '14 with 22k miles that needs new front rotors and pads. Have my work done at a very reputable shop here in CT and was quoted $2k - price of admission for a $125k msrp land missle:

    (2) OEM rotors - $1,430
Stoptech "sport brake" pads - $153 for the set (oem pads $530 a set!)
    (2) hours labor - $218
Flush including Motul fluid - $129
    Governor's cut (sales tax) - $120

I have a really good hook up from a dealer for OEM parts, and he will ship. No taxes paid if you don't live in that state. Shoot me a PM, and I will give you his name and number.

Also, if you don't care about you pad wear sensor, you can bypass it by cutting the wires and soldering them together which is what I've always done. I don't need a computer to tell me when my brake pads need changed but that's just me. I feel its a waste of money to replace the sensor. I can take pictures of what I did if you are interested in doing that.

Also, I live in South Bend, Indiana which isn't too far from you. I would be willing to do the install, and brake flush for a very reasonable price if you are interested. I have all the equipment to do it. All you would need to do is bring fluid and parts. Let me know, shoot me a PM

    PM sent.
As far as sensors, I'd like to keep them functioning. How many do I need? One for every wheel or just 1 for both front wheels? Everybody seems to have a different opinion on that...

Some cars are different on the sensors, some take more than one. But it looks like yours only takes one for the front. However if your light isn't on, then your old sensor is still good.

The light is on. So the sensor would need to be replaced, I guess.

Very happy with the Carbotech pads on my car:
    http://www.ctbrakes.com/pads.asp

    I have the 1521 compound

A big benefit is a huge reduction in brake dust.

I was told by an Audi technician that you can wait until the brake light mil illuminates. Because it comes on when the brakes are close to needed replacement. In other words if you change them before then your throwing money away. Unless your rotors are cracking or you have squealing. Any one else heard this?

Those are nice pads too, but you'll need to reuse the weights from your old pads and for these, and they are about $100 more than the Hawk Pads. I currently have 1521 pads on my wife's Q5 from carbotech. We both like them a lot, however just remember, these are not track pads so if you plan on tracking your RS7, I wouldn't go with 1521 pads from carbotech

    Here's what happened to me.
I ordered EBC red stuff online, brought them to shop to find out that they don't fit.
I had to go to a local store to buy whatever. Whatever was posi quiet, which didn't fit either.
Only OEM from dealer for 3x the price fit my car.
Maybe mid-year change, maybe something else, but it feels like a giant evil setup against RS7 owners.
