    Why I regret running GIAC

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Long story short....My car is a B8.5. I installed the Euro-code high-flow cat. Engine light came on. I got a 45 degree spacer. Engine light came back on after clearing it. I read that APR's tune disables the secondary O2 sensor. Wonderful I thought. I call GIAC and ask them if there's a way they can send my shop he programming to disable the O2 sensor and am told "we don't disable the secondary O2 sensor for legal reasons. They then tell me my flashloader can clear the engine light. So I check my spacer and O2 sensor to make sure it's not in too far into the cat. I follow Logan's instructions and guess what?.....the flashloader CANNOT turn off the CEL. I call GIAC back a few days later and Logan tells me that if I disconnect the positive and negative terminals on the battery and touch them together for 15 seconds, it will turn off the CEL. Guess what?....NOPE! Upon further investigation I learn that only a diagnostic tool like a vag-com can turn the light off. I'm so pissed that I pad $550 for a tune that won't even let me properly run a STG II without my check engine light constantly being on. I should have went with APR from the jump.

This is one of the reasons I switched from GIAC to APR.

This is why I can't stand when people say "go with whatever's the closest" whenever anyone asks what tune they should get... I have a GIAC tuner literally 500 ft away from my office and I'm still holding out for Unitronic (which is about 20 miles away), because they're all very different tunes with different pros/cons for each. I'm going Unitronic because it doesn't have the huge torque bump APR has (better for my clutch) and it can be flashed at home.

Sorry you're dealing with that... maybe you're within some sort of trial period?

They are worried about it being against the law to tamper with an o2 sensor? FFS they are dumping a bunch of fuel and co2 into the atmosphere with a rich tune anyways.

Perhaps you should have researched which companies software is compatible with a HFC. GIAC has a 30 day return policy, just get it flashed back and go buy Revo or APR. I don't see how any of this is GIAC's fault.

Where does it say on their website that its not compatible with an HFC? One of the recommended upgrades is an exhaust... I could argue that would include a HFC.

I have a GIAC stage 2 tune with an 034 HFC and a straight spacer and have never seen a check engine light. I have almost 10,000 miles on this setup.

i suggest calling HPA. as i understand, their programming tools & methods don't trick the car in to disabling or covering up the features that Audi originally designed in, the HPA programming allows for the vehicle's full adaptive nature across all channels, whilst optimizing power output.

I have APR Stage 2, + + + (see my sig.)...still on stock clutch with over 139000Km's (~87000miles)...my clutch doesn't slip at all.
I believe APR tuned it specifically so the clutch will hold.
Even their K04 kit and tune can be used with the stock clutch...so I've heard...

I wouldn't worry too much about the clutch.

Here in my local area there is much heated debate over GIAC and APR. I chose apr for the e85 tuning. And it's supported by an amazing shop locally (NGP).

Plus GIAC has terrible information on their website, which doesn't mean tune is bad, but it's hard to do research on very specific things when their website lacks proper graphical info and fails to mention e85 support.

Giac's e85 file requires manual switching to the race mode.. but it's been reported that the stg1 will adapt to e85 use...

Slight side note.. posted elsewhere but looking for response if i can get one...

So i have 1 year old b8.5 with APR Stg 1 tune about 1 month now. Yesterday when trying to pass a Semi (already in dynamic mode) probably in second gear as we were in traffic, i dumped the pedal and instantaneously she took off.. and 2 seconds later she killed out not even half way past his rear end

ESC/traction control light came on (no triangle/ slippage warning in RPM meter) ( wasn't slipping) i was on dry pavement / these cars dont really have power to let the tail out- wasn't wet out etc. and the car just basically died/went limp... let go off the gas and re accelerated light went off and that was it.

Tried to replicate the scenario but not having same result. Any ideas? Sucks basically brand new car, leased so i can give it back but my concern is just is it the Tune F**in up my car.

To the gents all Tuned up in here.. .advice?

Yea I know, but I called them and they said technically they don't support the auto mapping, and apr did, at that point the answer was clear to me....

@Mwhit02 the HPA k04 solution is the most compete kit i've seen! their SW is supposed to be rock solid too now that they've got it dialed in. their programming logic is more OEM than APR and GIAC,in other words, they don't disable any of the o2 sensors, or other adaptive functionality.

my kit is in the mail (complete with Intake Manifold !!) and i can't wait to get it bolted up!
