    High pitch squeak/squeal after luft-tecnik install

    Hi all,

    I am new to this forum and have searched but not come up with much info on my problem. I purchased a 2010 A4 2.0T 6MT about two weeks ago and I am excited for my purchase. I am starting off with a few base mods and decided to go with an intake from ECS. I just installed yesterday and now there is a very load squeak/squeal under load. It kinda sounds like too much air shooting through a too small of an opening? It doesn't seem to follow any pattern, other than it only makes it under higher load level. Sometimes it will make it for a split-second and then go away. I went back over install and made sure all connections are tight and instructions were followed.

    I have owned turbo cars for about 12 years, all with open air intakes, and I have never heard one make this sound. I'm not sure if it is likely something with the install or I received a defective intake (highly unlikely) or if I have some other problem that was exposed by the new intake. I'm thinking about the diverter valve. Car is a 2010 (I believe May '09 build) with 63k on the odometer, so not sure if the stock oem one is shot? Any thoughts would be helpful. Hopefully it isn't just the sound of the intake...

    Its not the intake. It is a B8 noise. It is not harmful or a failing turbo. Just annoying. The stock airbox hides a lot of that noise.

    not a defective intake. ive had 3 brands of aftermarket intakes all the same result.

    Get used to it, same noise from my K&N Typhoon, my fiancee hates the noise, she says I ruined the car =( lol

    The only way I can get it to not make the sound is drive like a total grandma or like a speed demon (WOT)

    Have any of you changed the diverter valve to either new OEM piston (its on sale at ECS right now) or go fast bits and seen any difference in sound?

    I put a k&n on ours and my wife said the same thing haha, it does produce a pretty weird part throttle noise vs other turbo cars, but sounds good at wot

    I already have the new OEM piston since I have a 2011 model and adding the GFB DV+ did not change the sound much, it might have made it a bit louder? It does make more whooshing sounds.

    punkalex1 mine does not make at a standstill. Only when moving and under load. I definitely hear the turbo more now, just seems odd to hear this new noise. It almost sounds like a tea kettle sometimes. Ill try to get a video of it.

    My ECS intake didn't last past a test drive. It looked and fit perfect but sounded terrible under partial throttle.

    The squeal is louder than in the video and it only happens at partial throttle.

    Best fix for this is go K04 or you could always remove it

    I see what you mean now. Mine does sound like that but I assumed since it's a small little turbo it should make a little squeal lol. You don't think maybe sound box delete plus turbo muffler delete would get rid of it? Maybe even an intercooler upgrade?

    nope. ive done both and even turbo muffler delete. Unfortunately besides the stock airbox there isnt a known fix (maybe a turbo upgrade) besides that though :/

    This is really frustrating b/c I didn't read anything about this when researching intakes. After this, I feel like I would be much better off with AFE dry filter and ECS silicone intake hose? Then spend the rest of the money on a Euro Code intercooler hose kit? Also, if I go this route, the kit comes with a turbo adapter so the turbo muffler delete becomes irrelevant?

    Is this just a B8 thing? or does the B8.5 do it too? looks like everyone on this thread doesn't have a B8.5. but not everyone lists the year of their car.

    The intake is VERY loud with the k04 and it is awesome. I might have an AWE exhaust coming soon. Those that have the CTS k04, ECS intake and exhaust say that the exhaust does overpower the intake sound a bit.

    I went from stage 1 to k04 so I am not sure about stage 2. But if you look at APRs graphs it is around 40 hp on 93. The big benefit is having more power across the entire rpm range especially top end. There is a little loss on the low end just because it is a bigger turbo. If you do a lot of high way driving it is definitely worth it.

    I used to have luft teknick intake also. Replaced it with stock airbox again, silicone turbo inlet and Afe highflow dry filter and I still get a light flutter / whistle, so it's definitely just the stock turbo not managing that much airflow. The whistle does seem to happen on non enclosed intake units.

    Do you think the TMD would make it less, I haven't got the IC /piping yet. I would think the TMD would make it louder wouldn't it?

    Its crazy how loud it is and that the stock air box could possibly mask all of it. With my afe filter/no upgraded inlet hose I didn't hear much of anything.

    I noticed drive in S makes it less noticeable. Tmd makes no differance from what other members have mentioned

    all aftermarket intakes make the same noise on the B8 TFSI.stock airbox masks it.
