    1.8 turbo question

My current turbo had one of the bolts for the manifold snap off, so I went to pull-a-part and got a k03 turbo off of a 03 Passat. Is there a reason it looks like thisIMG_0037.jpg

I clicked on pic and page for me to see more clear opened up. Magnified it to the point only compressor inlet was on my laptop screen. Still have no idea what I am looking at. Is there even any remnant of a compressor blade in the pics?

And is there anything wrong with the turbo with the snapped bolt? If not, take it to a machine shop and have them take it out. It is a standard seized bolt...so does not have to be a vehicle parts machinist. Go wherever is cheapest. It will be much easier and maybe cheaper if you take the turbine housing separate to them. If they end up having to drill it out, less work for them when setting up jig and less cost to you if they charge hourly.

I took it to about 5 shops and all of them were scared to touch the turbo. They all told me to just get a new one. And the turbo in the picture is completely fine besides the blades missing

Just swap the CHRAs (center housing rotating assemblies), if old turbo is functional.

Won't I have to replace some seals if I do it that way?

No. Should just be two housings. You are not taking the CHRA apart. Just taking off the housings and swapping the CHRAs.
