New to me B6 S4 Questions

    Okay, three things...

    1. Do all stock B6/7 S4's have a ton of slop from the drivetrain (coming from an M3), the shifter moves back pretty significantly when on it in second gear. Additionally, it's really difficult to get a smooth shift when WOT. Not sure if this is due to mounts, but I ordered 034 street density motor and trans mounts and an ECS Tuning snub mount. I'm not a fan of drivetrain slop.

    2. Fuel door. What the hell? I pull the button on the door card and the thing doesn't pop open, is this normal? How are you supposed to open it, short of carefully prying it open with your fingers? Also, there is no where to put the gas cap when filling? I'm sure as shit not putting the thing on my paint.

    3. I started a build thread, check it out! Nogaro/Nogaro 6-speed sedan goodness.

The new mounts will certainly help slop, so you have that covered there. As for your fuel door, that sounds like it has malfunctioned. It should at least pop open a few centimeters. And to hang it, there are two notches in the gas cap that you can use to rest on the fuel door.

Can't wait to see the progress on the build, have fun with it!

Wait, we have a gas door popper? I always just open mine by pressing on the edge furthest to the front of the car.

For the shifter, look into JHM's short shifter trio package. My S4 came with it already installed, but it's got very minimal slop and I haven't had many issues with missing gears.

Hopefully those solve my issues. I have only filled up once (surprisingly), so I'm not entirely positive that it didn't move at all. I'll have to pay more attention next time, it just seemed odd. Thank you! Hoping to have all that stuff installed, plus downpipes and maintenance items this weekend.

My gripe is not with the shifter, it's AWESOME compared to BMW sloppy shifters. My issue is drivetrain slop. There seems to be quite a bit, especially doing a second gear pull. I am not exaggerating when I say my entire shifter moves back up to half an inch to an inch.

Take a look at the 034 subframe billet bushing replacements as well as their trans mounts. Being AWD, you will feel a lot more movement from stock OEM bushings when compared to the RWD of out a BMW.

Reviving this with a few new questions...

    1. Sometimes on cold start I get a P0455 code, but once cleared it will not return until another cold start. Both times it appeared it was about 45-50 degrees outside. When I first started the car upon delivery (midday, was decently warm) it didn't throw the code. Any ideas on what to check first?

    2. Possibly related? When filling up, the gas nozzle seems to click off quite often. Can this be related to the evap code, or are the filler necks tricky on these?

    B7 does, B6 doesn't

Filler cap might not be tight enough, and the cold could be messing with it. I would replace that first. Or if you have vag-com, you can test the evap system for leaks.

B6 does, mine has it at least. Doesn't seem to work, but I don't see why the door card would have been replaced with a B7 one.

On the B6s we have a gas door lock that locks when you lock the car.
