    S6 turn signal problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is the last thing I need to get fixed before inspection, my turn signals are working but it only lights up halfway. What I mean by that is it only lights up halfway in the drl lens. My dash indicators are blinking really fast, so I know something is wrong. Could it something simple as a bulb? I have the full led headlights, both sides do this and hazards are the same way.

This is a generalization but typically when the indicators are blinking more rapidly, as you're describing, it means the bulb's life is low and needs replaced.

Dead bulb usually results in the relay being thrown off and the resultant rapid blinking.

Okay, gotcha. So, all I have to do is replace the bulb and problem solved?, it seems weird that both sides died at the same time. I'll break into the headlights and so what I can find.

If you have full LED then you don't have a bulb.

Does that mean it's not repairable?

It might be a module that would get replaced.

Have you checked for codes with a VAGCOM?

Also looking at the lights do you notice any asymmetry between left and right turn signal lights blinking?

It may just be a loose connector.

Did you change to full LED lights?

The controller setting for the blinking may be different with full LED versus bulbs. There may also be a setting you can acess with the VAGCOM.

No, it came with full led, just the modules were missing (salvage), I'll go over everything including the plugs on the modules this afternoon.

Well, I checked plugs and modules are they look good. Still getting the same thing, but hopefully it may need some settings changed via vag com.

Sorry, I am fairly new with these types of cars. I'll get the hang of it in a little while.

Are you sure the replacement modules are the exact same part number as what was originally fitted to the car?

Coding differences could also be the cause of the problem. I certainly wouldn't be assuming that the problem is with the headlights themselves.

Modules I used for each headlight:

    1 x 4H0907472
    1 x 4H0907472E
    1 x 4G0907697F
    1 x 4H0907472B

Does the white DRLs light up all the way across or does it stop at the same spot as the turn signal?

Drl's go all the way, low beam and high beam work as well.

Still could be a coding issue (modules may be expecting a different variant of headlight for example).

If the wiring appears to be untouched I would be assuming a problem with either the coding or module part number.

Hey I know this is a few years late on this but did you ever find a resolution to this? I am having the same issue on my 2012 A6 and can not figure it out, everything but the front turn signals works fine but they light up half way and occasionally flicker

I'm also having this issue. I replaced my headlight and only half the turn signal works now.

Has anyone found the fix to this problem?

I work in a bodyshop and we recently worked on a 16 A6 and had the same issue on the L front turn signal. White DRL is fine but only half the amber lights up. We tried two new headlamp assemblies and tried all the modules off the right side and still no luck. $4000 headlight, not counting the modules and we can't get it to work.

Not yet. The Audi dealer we took it to said we fried the headlight with a bad module. We told them that was funny because we swapped the modules from side to side and it didn't screw up the other headlight. I believe we are going to be taking it to a different dealer.

    The saga continues

we took the Audi to another dealer and they said its a missing module. they orderd the part but we won't know for a few weeks if it fixes it. Evidently there are 4 modules in each headlight. a DRL module, corning lamp module, a main headlamp control module, and a turn signal (LED) module. I didn't dig to deep into the original lamp before it got tossed but I did find underneath one of the covers that comes on the assembly was a fan and module that needs to be swapped to the new lamp.
I assume the turn signal module must be down inside the light somewhere. the main modules screw to the outside of the lamp and act as covers too.

I'll post back when the repairs are complete.

BTW, these Audi dealers are raping us bad. the diagnosis and labor charges are ridiculous. the first one charged us for a module it didn't need, the second one charged $700 to fix a broken two wire pigtail and refused to take back the first headlamp we bought because it wasn't defective. Anyone need a $4,000 headlamp?

I assume the turn signal module must be down inside the light somewhere. the main modules screw to the outside of the lamp and act as covers too.

I'll post back when the repairs are complete.

BTW, these Audi dealers are raping us bad. the diagnosis and labor charges are ridiculous. the first one charged us for a module it didn't need, the second one charged $700 to fix a broken two wire pigtail and refused to take back the first headlamp we bought because it wasn't defective. Anyone need a $4,000 headlamp?
Thanks for the update! I only managed to find two modules in my headlight. I'm going to have to look at the old light again and see if there's a module in there that I missed.

I wish I had our old light still here to take pictures. If I remember right, the fan and module are under a plastic cover in the center and I assume there is a smaller signal module hiding somewhere under of of the two side exposed modules.

I believe # 18 is the module we are looking for.

I think I found it! It slots into one of the covers. No idea how I missed it twice. I'm going to swap it in tonight/tomorrow. I'll post if it fixes my issues

I just looked at the new headlamp we got stuck with. Sure enough under the outboard cover was the place for the 4th module. To bad we threw away our original broken lamp assy that still had the module in it.

Just realized that I never followed up. My turn signal is working as expected again after swapping in the missing module

Glad to hear you got it fixed. they really shouldn't hide modules like that.
