    Getting a brake pad warning

So as the title says I’m getting a brake pad warning but I checked the (outer) pads and I have at least 1/4 to 1/2” of material left on them… would this mean it’s a sensor issue?

try disconnecting the sensor and see if the alarm is still there. I believe the alarm comes up once it sees ground. Maybe there is crap in the connector making ground or something along those lines.

Its not really a sensor to the best of my knowledge, its just a switch thats made once the pads get to a certain height close enough to ground out a metal tab within the pad to the rotor

FWIW, the wire should be on in inner pad, closest to the knuckle.....maybe your caliper pins are sticky, and wearing one pad out faster than the other.

It is just a loop of wire. I just checked and there is a continuity between the two pins. I believe it gets cut in half when the pads are low. So you probably want to jump it with a paper clip at the connector as opposed to just disconnecting. Alternatively, disconnect the sensor and check the pins in the plug for continuity. Or pull it out and check the tip for the damage.

It’s annoying how it doesn’t tell you what sensor it is

Oh, that’s what you mean. There is only one (on my b8 anyway) - look for a black wire going to the area of caliper on the front drivers side. It really is a piece of wire in a rubber boot. I think it can be pulled out pretty easily, although I don’t remember for sure. Look up what it looks like online.

Why not just check the inner pad?

Just had the same problem with intermittent dashboard light for brakes, even if pads were in good shape.
My local shop soldered in a new wiring harness 8K0 972 251 E, which solved my issue. They said it was a common issue, something about cable breaking at a juncture or something.
