Silver or Satin Black Painted Stock Rear Diffuser?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just painted my stock rear diffuser as a way to eliminate the gray on the car. for my s4, i just want black and silver, and the wheels are going to stay silver regardless of whether i keep the peelers or go with vorsteiners at some point. the rear diffuser is going to stay stock, but instead of gray, it's either going to be silver or satin black. after painting it silver, what do you guys think? keep the silver or go satin black? also planning on getting some magnaflow tips in chrome if keeping the silver, or new tips in black with the satin black diffuser

Not bad but I'd prefer black vs silver

it may be just a little bright for what our eye usually sees there. The Alu diffuser trim piece kinda gets lost in the silver. How is the rest of the car detailed... is there any silver on the front of the car? or just mirrors and wheels?

Since you are asking for opinions, I think it looks awful and doesn't match anything. Black gloss would look nice.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the honest opinions. I'm now pretty sure it's going to black. It just draws too much attention to something that doesn't really warrant attention. At the front of the car is an all-black RS grille, and the stock silver "blade" under the grille, but otherwise all black.

But chrome or black tips with the black diffuser?

chrome tips, and leave the Alu blade on the diffuser Alu. I always liked Alu side blades as well on Black to tie in the wheels, mirrors and the rear diffuser blade. Just IMO...

I'm looking at painting mine black, did you remove the valance or leave it in place and mask off the rest?

removed the valence. it requires removing the bumper, but that takes about 20 min. so it's not bad

I applaud you for trying something out of the ordinary with the silver, but after seeing it I'd definitely go with a satin black!

For the tips, you can pull off either of them. Chrome won't look out of place given the other bright bits (wheels, mirrors), but black looks good, too!

yea, i'm thinking chrome tips and the stock alu-bar would look good with the diffuser in black. i painted the stock tips black because they are so pitiful looking and wanted them to disappear. magnaflow has some chrome 3.5" slash-cut tips that look "similar" to the awe tips, and i'll probably do 4 of those. the audi rings are chrome on my car, so that should match

On order. I'm shorter too, so it'll be legit

Just some cheap Duplicolor gloss black engine enamel, and the "engine" clear. I did a goodish job, but there are some issues. Nobody will ever know though. The clear turns yellow if it gets too thick. Not a problem with the black, but when I tried to clear something that was gray, it started to go bronze. Took a white paper towel and sprayed the clear in one spot, and it started yellowing pretty quick, so watch out for cheap clear rattle cans. One medium coat will be enough, or it'll start to discolor

thanks man. oh, there is plenty of desire for an awe touring system, but there are so many other performance things i want to spend money on first, that a full catback is pretty low on the list. i was thinking the magnaflow resonated X pipe and four of their 3.5" tips would get me by for now. i'm sure i'll circle back around to a catback at some point
