    Muffler/Resonator Delete questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So at the moment I'm considering a muffler and resonator delete or one of the two, until I get the money for a good exhaust system (looking at the CTS turbo back). I know I can get an exhaust shop to do it for under a couple hundred bucks, but I'm interested to hear what others think I should do, especially those who have done this already. I would like to delete both, but I'm concerned about it being too loud. I could just delete the mufflers but I've heard there's not much difference. Has anyone tried to just delete the resonator? If yes, what difference in sound was there, if any? I have two goals with this: to get some more sound out my car, and possibly some popping and gurgling noises as well potentially some more turbo noise.

Just as a note, I'm running the factory downpipe with the cat. Also, I plan on getting 3 to 4" tips installed as well to fill the openings in the bumper better

    Thanks for the input gents!

    Muffler/Resonator Delete questions

I have my mufflers deleted with my resonator still on. Personally I don't see a big difference. There's no drone which is a plus, you'll hear it at lower rpm's and once u start cruising at 40+ it goes away. I'd say get both taken off it want it to be nice and loud. On my old b7, I deleted the resonator and got two flowmaster super 40 mufflers and i was in love with the sound.

What did it sound like? Was it deep sounding? Did it sound "tinny"?

It gave a nice deep rumble. It also gave a bit of a drone at highway speeds but I loved it lol this time around I'm gonna do the same except with flow master super 10 mufflers for more sound. And as far as tips go, i say get 4" tips cause they fill the cutouts perfectly imo.

I'm also running muffler and resonator delete with a 2.25 upgraded piping from the cat back and it sounds amazing. I get a lot of compliments and isn't loud until I hit over 5k rpms. Even then the sound isn't horrible. I plan on swapping in my test pipe sometime this month which might make me louder but not bad. Muffler shop charged me 130 including the material. If you want to pm me your info I'll send you a video when I get off work later today.

I kept the resonator but went with a pair of Magnaflow clone S4 style mufflers when I swapped over to the S4 diffuser, I get a little drone until I hit 40-45 and whenever I hit the gas, but it's a good note. Just getting rid of the stock mufflers made my off-throttle respone quicker. Can't wait to get rid of the stock cat and swap in a HFC...

What's the model number of the mufflers you got? Do you have a video of the sound? I've been thinking of getting magnaflows instead of flowmaster but I like the loudness and deep tone of the flows lol

As far as an affordable exhaust that has some growl but is completely okay as a DD. Look no further than the JHM downpipe mated to a B6/B7 catback. Definitely performance improvement and very tolerable inside cabin, but has some sound to it. If you want something louder though I will have a full stasis catback in the classifieds in a few days ;)

Can you explain in a bit more detail which muffler bits you deleted? I have twin pipes each with their own muffler then another 2 more mufflers/resonators. I just deleted the first of the 2 resonators and out didn't make much difference except more sound from the turbo.

I think it's because those are the resonators and they take out most of the noise coming from ur engine/turbo so since those resonators aren't there the turbo got loud but now since you still have your stock mufflers on, by the time the sound exits those mufflers it becomes quiet. So I think if you remove those two mufflers as well and replace them with straight pipes or after market high flowing mufflers, whatever your choice, you will get a much better noise out put. especially with the true duals you have. That's all just my 2 cents.. good luck!

Thanks Destiny, I thought about removing the rear mufflers but afraid it'll be too loud.

From what I've seen, res delete makes the car crackle more but some what droney, just a muffler delete makes a deep tone with zero drone, not too loud, can only really be heard at cold start and under WOT. But as soon a you delete your cat with not muffler holy loud.

    Hope this helps

Resonator delete is stupid. Youll just have loud drone and sound like ass.

    Do a muffler delete
