Exclamation Busted OEM CAT- switch to JHM HFC cat pipe?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I hit a huge rock the other day
Hit the bottom of the down pipe, and broke the right side catalytic converter ( the one that connects the manifold to the down pipe)
    Oem cat is $1150!
Should I get the JHM HFC cat pipes?
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...light=Cat+pipe

Will I fail emissions with those?
I'm thinking of getting those with an APR stg 2 tune with pulley

I also damaged the oem engine splash shield.
Should i get the oem one, or is the ECS one better?
Oem is $619, ECS is around $225

Simple answer is "Yes." I have the ECS splash shield, the JHM catless race pipes and the JHM tune (I have the naturally aspirated V8). And they are all amazing. The tune eliminates any CELs associated with having removed the cats, so I'm able to pass emissions. But here in Texas, the emissions is just an OBDII port check. They do not perform a "sniffer" test.

I used to live in VA, but can't remember if they hook the hose up to the exhaust. I would probably say that if they hook the hose up to your exhaust, then you will probably fail. But if they just perform an OBDII port check, you should be fine with the right tune. Here's a couple of shots of the plate.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you!
Yeah I don't want to risk the test pipe
I pay $1500 to install a part, and if I have issues I have to pay another $1500 to remove it
    Too risky
I was thinking the high flow cat pipe
At least that way I still have a cat, and will probably have less issue with emissions or exhaust smell etc

VA is the most backward state in the union when it comes to cars
The other 49 states think radar detectors are ok, except Va
For some reason va thinks it's the right one, and the other 49 are all wrong
I think they should have a "dumbass rule"
If 49 states agree on something, force that 50th one to change its rules to match
And if you get speeding 20moh over the speed limit, heh consider it a felony!
So you have a criminal record.

The ECS belly pan looks good, I'll go for that

Wow! Who's charging you $1500 to do the install???!!!

Then are you going to go with the high-flow cat pipe? I can't remember if VA uses the sniffer or just performs an OBDII port check.

    I haven't gotten a quote yet.
Just did a search on this site.
Apparently on the v6 you have to lower/drop the transmission
I have a quote to replace just the single busted pre cat from the dealer for 16.2 hours of labour at $150 an hour!
I figured if I'm paying that much, I'd rather go aftermarket, especially if I can get more performance :)

I think Va doesn't do sniffer, but I don't want to risk it. Because I have heard of some people getting pulled over (after having passed emissions) for a bad smell coming from the exhaust. So just passing doesn't mean your good.
