    Heated Mirror Issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My right side heated mirror hasnt worked in years on my 09 sedan. I replaced it with a used on off ebay that supposedly is in working order, but its still not working. I did purchase the entire mirror assembly so I will plug that in sometime next week to see if its the wiring harness going to the mirror, but if not, anyone have any idea of what else it can be? I did check if the wires with a volt meter a while ago and im pretty sure they were supplying juice, but I could be wrong.

Is the heating portion of it not working or the dimming?
Make sure you have 12v at the power supply pin, if you do, also make sure you have a good ground on the other pin.

I just checked the voltage. The mirror that doesn't work is getting just above 12v. It is possible that the mirror i got off ebay is bad too, but theres no way for me to check that really. I also checked the other side mirror to compare and for some reason got 0v, but that one works for sure, odd.

You can compare the resistance of the working mirror to the not working mirror. If you don't have the same values, or a OL, then you probably have a bad mirror. Also, did you check for ground. Who cares if you're getting power if the other wire is not grounded. I generally check for ground against the door latch, its a good reference point.

I'll check those out during the week. Its just such a pain in the ass. I think I replaced like 5 faulty things in the past week and this was the last one on the list.

Ok so i tested the ground against the door latch and had resistance. The mirror itself, the original and the replacement showed zero resistance, so i guess the guy that sold me the assembly had no idea if the heated portion worked or not. hopefully I can get a refund form him and find a cheap working one eventually.

How common is it that the heated mirrors burn out?

My buddy's 2012 C7 A6, had a passenger side mirror that just failed last week. Generally I get a lot of replacements from parking impacts. We get a TON of those. Generally have to replace the entire mirror base. As far as just the mirror glass, I generally don't see complains, once in a blue moon I will see a auto dimming issue. Never had a defrost / heating complaint, may be due to the fact that people just don't notice, or don't know that their mirrors are heated.
