Lifelong JDM guy with few questions

The only cars I've ever had have been Japanese cars. While not the absolute best in their respective classes, no one can question the reliability.

I recently drive a base TT and fell in love, as it was completely different feeling than any of the Japanese stuff I've owned. Hard to explain, but defiantly different.

Is the base motor 2.0 and the matching s stronic transmission a pretty bullet proof set up? I have always had naturally aspirated engines mated to traditional sporty automatics that can take a beating everyday for thousands of miles and show no signs of problems if cared for well. The turbo and dual clutch in the TT are amazing but I have no experience with their reliability.

I drive my cars everyday and enjoy sporty driving and really ringing out the motors in my cars. Don't really have a plan to tune, probably just a nice exhaust set up.

Looking if anyone would like to share their opinion on the quality control and design of Audi and the TT escpedially if any of you have come from the JDM world.

Of course all my forums have spent years bashing the German stuff for expensive repairs and unreliability, but being 2016 I think everything is made pretty well these days and chalk that up to just hate talk with no truth.

Thanks for the help and any insight you can share about this car and driving it everyday and maintaining it and any tips you have would be appreciated.

Just trying to do a little research before signing on the dotted line as some other JDM stuff is calling my name but would like to try something completely different, just hoping it doesn't bite me in the A$$.

I don't have a TT, but an S3 and have been driving dual clutch since 2008 with 3.2 VR6 R32, MK6 GTI and now the S3. My daughter, her boyfriend, his mother and one of my best friends all have DSG MK7 GTIs, all totaling to 7 cars with ZERO issues. All of them have one of the best engines and transmissions in the world. The looks? Not the most exciting exterior design, but more appealing to me personally than anything else in the market today. But when it comes to the MK3 TT, they are just simply gorgeous: excellent quality, excellent looks, the best interior. Even the high end Lexus don't have interior materials that match the low end Audi, or heck yes, even the GTI. I never cared about TT until the most recent model and my next car is the upcoming TTRS without a doubt.

It's mostly trolling online when people bashing modern Audi or any other VAG cars. Before they probably were unreliable, but it's laughable to me when someone mentions that today.

My wife has driven Lexus for years and I have to say their leather interior is a very nice softer variety. But the Audi looks good and will undoubtedly hold up better over time. Otherwise I totally agree ...

btw: I've had JDM vehicles since a 1977 Toyota Celica GT Liftback. More recently had a 2005 RX-8 and currently have an inaugural year 2003 Mazda 6 as my winter 'beater.' Over 100k miles and no issues. ;)

I have had 3 Audi's all have been great, I used my 12 Avant on the track a bit, great car. Not DSG.

My 16 TTS is a exceptional, the car has been tuned and tweaked, I love it.

I have had no issues with DSG, problems can happen the same with Japanese cars. Just think about, the DSG has been going into cars for a long time now, pick a high end brand they have a dual clutch, regular automatics are kind of boring and slow.

I came from a JDM background too and am looking to pull the trigger on b8.5 S4 myself.
Let us take the JDM to Euro plunge together lol
