Thule cargo box

So what kind of space can you achieve with this? I may be looking at one for summer beach trips.... extra space since the BS k seats are for the kids

and I have the A7 trunk which will hold some cargo but for week trips will this be sufficient.... do not really want to take two cars for all the groceries, cloths etc. also is this easily removable and stored? I like the way this looks on this 7

Or maybe even this one???

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

They generally size them by cubic feet and length. I have a Thule sonic xl mostly to fit my bigger skis, otherwise would have gone with something a little smaller. Once the bars are on the car the box is super easy to take off, just 4 dials to loosen or tighten the feet.

Boxes are great for added secure and weatherproof storage.

I just received my Thule box, it looks like the pictures with the A6. It's long: 235x94x47, also to have the ski in, and more (630 liters).

I haven't put it on my 7 yet, but I can tell you you'd better figure out where to store this big piece prior to the buy ;)

Once you take the box off...I assume you have to add those cross bars for it to sit on? Do they stay on permanently or can you remove those as well. I'm not using this regularly it's only for trips and rather not have the cross bars on there if the box isn't on

the bars, feet and fit kit are all separate. About $500 new but i usually buy mine on ebay as open box or next to new (you'd be surprised how many people buy racks and only use them once...) for a good discount. Personally i prefer the newer style aeroblades for bars. Once you get them set up properly and mounted for the 1st time, it's not bad to take them on or off and it gets quicker each time you do it as you get comfortable with the process. It's also wise to put some xpel or 3m clear bra under the feet to protect the paint.

If anyone is interested, i have a set of Thule aeroblades that i'm selling. 53 inch, silver. Bought them used on ebay for my S6 but decided to pick up a set in black instead. There is some light scratching on the label but otherwise they're in great shape. Would sell for what i paid, $125 plus shipping.

I just bought the same set up you're considering. I bought the Arb53 bars from another member (around the same price asking above) and found a web coupon on stoorz.com for outdoorplay.com for $169 for the 480r foot pack with free shipping (normally $199).
Search google for Thule & stoorz.com. I had to buy the Fitkit separately as no deals to be found. Amazon prime had the 1791 kit.

As far as space goes, roof boxes come in a variety of sizes. If you plan to use it for skiing at all make sure to get one long enough. Another thing to keep in mind for most boxes is that multiple smaller bags are a lot easier to fit than a few larger bags. Often larger bags, especially hard framed roller suitcases will not allow the box to close.

Side note, I have a brand new set of black Aeroblades like on that RS7 you posted. Not sure where you are in PA but it could be win-win if shipping wasn't required.

I just went through this with my S6.
The Thule Aeroblade bars were cheaper than Audi bars.
Thule boxes are basically never on sale, or so I thought. I was looking for a gently used one on CL for a while, then finally gave in. Instead of buying on Thule website, I went to buy on Amazon to save on shipping (they are obviously huge). I went to check out with my Thule Force Alpine (the Alpine is only two feet wide as opposed to 3 feet wide- I don't need that much space). Instead of the $600 on the Thule website it was $359 sold by Eastern Moutain Sports. A friend told me that Thule can only be sold on Amazon for the same prices as the Thule site, but this is obviously not the case.

I also spent time looking at ads but the only few times I saw this model (xxl), it was way too far and sellers weren't incline to ship... couldn't find better price than what several websites proposed: 670 euros... little one just born, winter trips planned through his childhood, no plan for a truck like x5, so I suppose it will be amortised!

Still don't get why they don't do roof box just sticking on the car's roof like the famous RS6 from a Rally Pilot (the one that burn...).

Just bought Thule wingbars and Motion XXL roofbox for exactly the same purposes. Bars 220€, box 735€ here in Finland.
Few long trips per year, A6 boot only takes childs trolleys and a couple of small bags. Normally it's not a problem as I drive alone most of my miles, that's why I don't have an Avant.
Desided to go with the biggest box you can get cause it's only purpose is to fit as much stuff as needed.

Same here. Went with the XL for size. i figure it's going to last a long time so it needed to be big enough for all the gear needed. IIRC, i got it on Amazon because it was cheapest shipped.
