Automatic taking too long to shift... why?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've searched through the web and forum and didn't really find anyone with the same exact problem. In both D and S, my car goes up to 3-4000 rpm and then stays there for a few seconds and then shifts. And it takes forever getting up to those rpm's to shift gears. I just recently had a cylinder 3 misfire and got all 4 coilpacks and spark plugs changed about 3 weeks ago. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Its a 2005.5 2.0T quattro. Its the automatic with the ability to put it into manual to shift up and down. Im sorry idk which one that would be considered. And i bought the car used with 87xxx miles and all I've gotten done are the coil packs, spark plugs, and one oil change right when i got the car. I'm at 89xxx miles now. So I would have no idea when the trans fluid was changed. I also have a p0089, i know its a generic code. Symptoms of that are my car taking time to start after overnight, if i keep it running for too long the rpm drops to 500 and stalls out on me until i give it some gas and start driving it. I know those relate to the lpfp and hpfp so idk if these 2 issues can be related.

Change the fluid and check for oil residue around the pcv area.

Do a transmission service first: Get the cheaper OLD fill kit from ECS Tuning if you have a cool mechanic who will let you supply parts. That code COULD be as simple as a $50 Diverter Valve and wouldn't have to worry about that part prob ever again. Also try to track down any service records on it. The CarFax, even if you have to pay for it, will tell you a lot like if it got any of the numberous campaign fixes under warranty, etc, including the HPFP/cam follower repair.

The Dv is actually another thing I did replace, I forgot to mention it. And I actually do have a mechanic that lets me brings my own parts. He just doesn't warranty his work if something goes wrong the parts but that's reasonable and I trust Ecs tuning and their parts. I'm gonna definitely look into pulling a carfax on it as well.

Ya, the CarFax alone will tell you where it was sold and serviced and you can always request service records from the dealers/shops with proof of ownership... I tracked mine down after I bought mine and was pleasantly surprised all the big problem stuff was already done under CPO warranty at the dealer.

Unfortunately I don't have a vagcom. Does that give a more detailed reason for the cel codes? I've never used one but I'm pretty sure my mechanic might have one considering he owns 3 audis lol

Yes it will give you more detailed info, it will list things other scanners will not especially with epc codes

Also I had a car fax and it was useless, I have seen many that do list the records but honestly mine was probably the least detailed car fax I've ever seen haha all it listed was the mileage and barely any registrations *shrug* it was in the same city its whole life though so I could try he dealership but meh

Also from what I've seen most mechanics don't warranty their parts

Also, I would change the transmission fluid ASAP, I have a manual transmission of the same year with half the miles and mt's are less affected by old fluid and he difference was unbelievable! I honestly thought I had synchro issues, and as gonna have to replace the gears etc, I changed the fluid and BOOM it was night and day! Honestly it will be really expensive but you need to change the fluid immediately. The longer the wait, the more damage you will cause

I'm gonna buy the transmission service kit from Ecs and have my mechanic do the fluid change as soon as I get some time. I pulled the carfax and there wasn't much. Just the usual oil change and what not. I'm the 2nd owner and The car always went to the same dealership but all the way in Maryland and in in New Jersey so I don't think it's worth it. I rather just fix the issues myself. I really appreciate all the help and input. This is actually my first real post on the forum so I really appreciate the help, thank you so much.

Your welcome, ya once the oil is changed you should be good to go, that sounds like a classic case of needing new fluid

So just an fyi thing, my car randomly stopped lagging at shifts ever since the cold weather came in. I still haven't gotten time to the fluid change. You think it's just a coincidence or is it cause the cold weather changed the consistency of the fluid or something? I'm still getting it changed but was just curious about this.

Yes, the viscosity would have changed.
