    Turbocharger balancing

    OK, I think I screwed up :(

I rebuilt the passengers side turbo, no problems. I marked both the hot and cold side turbine wheels & nut. Put it back together properly clocked, no problems. Drivers side....that's another story. When I pulled the hot side off, no problems. However, the cold side was very difficulty on the drivers side in comparison to the passengers side turbo. The drivers side turbo did not want to come off (cold side). I heated it up and with a gear puller I was finally able to get the cold side to release. But, when I went to take the compressor bolt off the end of the shaft had mushroomed. I had to grind a bit off to get the nut and compressor off. I did mark all pieces, but with some grinding to remove the nut, the turbo is now out of balance. I was going to just try and grind it off till it looked even, then common sense got the best of me.

Is this a problem or shall I ignore it? I personally think that I should send the compressor, turbine and nut in to have it balanced as it is such a PITA to get to the turbos. Where can I have this balancing done for a reasonable price. The cost on this project is going up & up and she's only my commuter :( The one good thing is that I"m no where near done. Just getting ready to pull the heads & inspect and rebuild the motor & I"m sending back a torque converter with the wrong markings so I have to wait on the correct item to return.

    Thanks everyone!

Best bet would be to purchase a new center, cartridge.
Ten years ago if you had 500HP you were the man. Now days that means you bought a new car.

I found a place that would charge 55$ for balancing and I have already purchased a rebuild kit, seems 55 is a better price that paying for an entire cartridge around 300 bucks. I've rebuilt turbos before, just never had any problems like I am with this turbo. Trying to keep cost to a minimum.
