Anyone with a DSG B8.5 S4 with AWE Touring exhaust w/ Res. Downpipes around Boston?

    Hey all,

Just purchased my dream car two weeks ago, 2013 Audi S4 DSG, Estoril Crystal Blue! Thought the exhaust sounded too anemic and couldn't wait to mod it so I installed an AWE Touring exhaust with 102mm polished tips last weekend. I am loving the sound but it's a bit too loud for my tastes and I'm quite sensitive to drone (I used to have a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S with a Skunk2 race exhaust which was way too loud).

I've put around 350 miles on it so far and doubt that it will settle down to a decent level so I'm thinking about purchasing the matching AWE resonated dps. Does anyone have this setup (B8.5 S4 with DSG and AWE Touring + res dps) around Boston that would be willing to meet up so I can hear it in person? If it's still too loud for my tastes, I might sell my pipes.

Thanks for your time all and looking forward to being a part of this awesome community!

The downpipes are definitely going to make it louder whether you go res or non-res - the setup you have is going to be the most tame (stock downpipes).

Don't know anyone who has touring w/res but I can totally show you touring w/non-res and it's loud!

I will second his comment, we have installed AWE exhausts with several different combinations and stock downpipes with the touring is going to be the most quiet setup over stock.

I'm in NH, I'd be interested in meeting up and hearing after market exhausts in person. I'm currently stock though..

I've heard from several people that the general order from softest to loudest is:

    1. Stock
    2. AWE Touring + Res DPs
    3. AWE Touring + stock DPs
    4. AWE Touring + non-res DPs
    5. AWE Track + Res DPs
    6. AWE Track + stock DPs
    7. AWE Track + non-res DPs

You're more than welcome to hear my car while I have the touring pipes installed. I'm just north of Boston.

Amp - I can totally meet up with you so you can hear the touring + non-res to get an idea of loud it is versus your setup.

theres more too it than that... the track is supposed to be as loud as the touring (with stock DPs) at WOT, but the track is much louder than the touring at lower RPMs. i'd agree with 1,2 3 and 7, but 4,5,6 are harder to describe

Nice! Did you install the Res DPs right away or did you have stock dps with the exhaust. I love the tone but hate the drone around 2-3k rpm partial throttle on the highway.

I installed the res DPs right away. It was recommended that I did the whole thing in one go

Yeah, I didn't believe them lol. I came from an Acura RSX-S with a short air intake, a host of other mods and a Skunk2 race exhaust. It droned if I even thought about depressing the gas pedal so I thought this would be nothing compared to that... I was wrong. I did remove the soundaktor, which helped, but still too much drone for me.

You're just going to have to keep it stock. I have touring with no DP's and don't don't find the drone bad or exhaust to loud. It's a very tamed exhaust in my opinion.

Did it ever "break-in" for you and get quieter? I rode in a fellow member's S4 with the resonated DP's and thought it was perfect.
