SQ5 Front brake pad replacement how to ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking to replace the front brake pads myself on my SQ5. I have the pads. Can't find any YouTube or post specifically for the SQ5. The SQ5 has unique calipers. The 380mm rotor and pads are same as the A8.

Looking that the caliper I see that it has 3 plastic dust caps. Top , centre and bottom. The top and bottom caps appear to have hex/Allen sockets underneath but they appear not to be standard 7mm size (or even 8mm). Are these the caliper bolts? I need to remove or should I remove the whole caliper using the 21mm caliper retaining bolts.

Pic of SQ5 Calipers showing the 3 dust caps off car.

    Any suggestions welcome!

    Actually easy.
2 mounting bolts inside of the caliper.
Remove brake line & wear sensor from holder
Pop out the pads and reinstall.

    Hi S-Fore,

Do you mean the 2 hex bolts under the plastic dust cover like the A8 or the 21mm or something I'm completely missing? (I've only looked at the right hand size, drivers side and it actually does't have a wear sensor ?)

    Thanks

Hex 7mm is loose and 8mm doesn't fit on the bolts?

The mounting bolts are much larger, maybe 21mm. On the *inside of the caliper facing the engine.......

Hi, did you ever figure out what those two are under the dust caps? Jacked up wanting to DIY rotors and brakes and I’m in the same spot you were in. Thanks!

If you work on the left. TILL THE WHEELS TO THE RIGHT! You'll have more space in case you need to use the breaker bar.

This thread is one of the first results in Google for SQ5 brakes. In case anyone is reading this you need a 9mm hex key for the bolts behind the dust cover.

Like the previous post said , 9mm and long is recommended to reach deep in that socket. Use high temp anti seize lube on these caliper pins to further prevent sticking.

    1) Remove the bolt that holds the "SQ5" plate and then remove the pad anti-rattle spring.
    2) Disconnect the pad wear sensor (only on one side, I think).
    3) Remove the wear sensor cable and the rubber brake line from the slots of the bracket.
    4) Remove the 2 black plastic dust caps, and remove the two 9mm allen socket slide-pins. Use a large flat screwdriver to carefully retract the pads a bit. Then pull the caliper off the reaction bracket to change the pads. Tighten 9mm pins to 55Nm.
    5) If you want to remove the entire caliper, to change the disc, remove the two large hex head bolts, to remove the reaction bracket from the steering knuckle. These large hex bolts will require a large breaker bar to loosen, and later tighten. Audi says to use new bolts. Tighten to 196Nm.

I saw on a youtube video, the guy started by removing the caliper mounting bracket with the caliper first. If I am replacing rotors and pads, can I just remove that bracket with the 21mm bolts without having to remove the 9mm caliper pins?

It's nearly identical to A6 A7 caliper in terms of the process. Potentially different size hardware and obviously larger rotor but same process
