ABS light with ESP (the triangle/circle with !) question

I did a search, but my situation is a little different and maybe someone has an idea. Fist I got a flat tire on my Rt. rear and I had to run my spare that is a little different size, but not that much off. I ran it about 5 miles total to a shop. When I changed my tire to the spare my lugs were pretty long, but I could spin the wheel okay with no noise. Also the offset is different. Anyway, the code I got was for the same wheel (00290 ABS wheel speed sensor G46 Open circuit short with power) I find it hard to believe changing that same tire would cause any issue. There was no sign of wear on the lugs or any issues in that way. My mechanic feels it is a coincidence, but is it? Geez, what are the odds? Any ideas before I buy a new sensor? Thanks.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Audi. You can be changing your valve cover gasket and next thing you know you have a fuel pump relay issue.

"But how can that be, they are totally unrelated?", one might ask themselves.

One may give the answer I just gave because we experienced odd stuff like that for a while (ie I am in a touchless car wash, car idling, car shuts off, I turn car back on, and till this day don't know what happened; never reoccured). Another may blame Murphy's silly cousin in Law...just can't recall her name
I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like a bitch

Hmm, well I cleared the code, but it came back on. Guess I will check the wire and change sensor if needed. I like to keep up on my old car. My mechanic says who cares you are driving without ABS. lol I tend to fix every little thing. Sure is strange that the tire that had the flat is the one effected. Maybe I will pull it for a closer look.

Not just no ABS, but no ESP / electronic diff "locking" (selective braking on the slipping wheel), which is kinda nice in the winter...
