    Meaty stance - too meaty?? 275/30/20 on 20x10 et40

Hey guys. I'm currently running 255/30 on my 20x10's et40. It's too much stretch for me so I've been looking to upsize.

I already ordered some Hankook V12's in 275/30zr20 and now I'm starting to freak out... Is this too much tire? I know they will be taller - approximately 12mm taller. I just can't seem to find anyone running a similar set up on an A4/S4.

I'm lowered on H&R super sport springs..

If anyone has some pics or thoughts they could share that'd be great! I've searched but having trouble finding pics or similar setups...

    Here's a similar wheel/tire setup on an A8.

    My current set up:

You'll likely probably rub if you aren't already.

IIRC there is a guy running even fatter tires. Can't remember his name though.

    -------------------------------

From my brief searching you should be fine. I would check with Jran though, he is the resident expert.

I personally love a taller wall tire. Within reason Of course. Aesthetically it will look stellar.

What do you mean by "meaty"? Tire wall too tall or tire sticks out too much?

Not rubbing at all currently. There's a lot of guys running 255/30 on ET35 wheels with no rubbing. I'm ET40. So I think I have some room to play with.

Totally agree. I'm just worried this tire might be too much... I just want to avoid having to roll my fenders.

More sidewall and more lip protection. Right now I feel like i have no sidewall and no lip protection. I'm mostly concerned about the 275's being too tall...

Sorry I can't answer your question. I used to run 275s on my 20x9 wheels. It was perfectly fine but my car was not lowered.

No worries - look's like you have an S5? You have a lot more fender clearance than an S4 to begin with. So not really comparable.

Tires just arrived at my shop - I guess I'll find out soon enough if it works out....

265 or 275 is the recommended width for a 10 inch wheel.

Oh nice! They're a fantastic wheel for the price. I can never bring myself to spend more than a couple grand on wheels - LA roads and valet drivers take their toll.

Did you have any rubbing issues with the existing 255/30-20 setup? It looks really good.

None whatsoever. There's a lot of folks running that set up with ET35 and have no rubbing. My wheels are ET40

The 275/30's are rubbing in the rear when I hit large speed bumps or dips. I'm going to do some trimming to the wheel liner tonight.

I'll post pics during my lunch break.

I had niche targa 20x10 et40 with 275/30/20 nitto tires and it did rub on dips in the road.Just be sure to check your rear quarter panel where the bumper meets up,
Mine bent there from the rubbing!

275 is too wide so it will rub on dips for sure. I run 255/40 on 18's for more meat on these horrible Chicago
streets if I lived south of the mason dixon then I would run your setup with et 35

Sorry, didn't see this, but below is a copy of what I wrote in the PM. You can also ask this on the FB group, and at least 5 people will tell you it's fine....

    -----------------------------------------------

You'll definitely get some rubbing. Unfortunately the window for a 10" wheel is so small, it's really hard run a wide tire without any issues. I would go into it assuming most 265's will rub, and probably all 275's will.

With that said, Hankook's are as narrow and stretchy as you'll find, so it won't be too bad. The extra height of the tire with your ride height will probably be the biggest issue. My guess is you'll run into issues on the rear liner with your ride height, and possibly where the rear fender and bumper meet depending on your alignment (toe) specs. There is a piece that sticks out there that is pretty easy to rub on if you're lowered. The front is a lot easier to deal with if you rub there. A light roll of the front fender should take care of any issues (remove the screw at the top of the fender if you haven't already).

With all that said, that wheel is not aggressive enough to cause major issues. Any rubbing you do get, you can pretty easily deal with....

The selection of 265/30/20 tires is horrible. There are maybe 2 tires I'd consider running in that size. The PSS in that size is probably as wide as the 275/30/20 Hankook.

265 on a 10" width rim would still have the same stretch look that he has now. I would put a 265 on a 9" only but I like a more square look than rounded for tires.

Jran76 - thanks for the PM! I really appreciate the input.

Well guys here it is. I removed the screws on the front fenders and did a quick roll by hand... LOL I just pulled the fenders up and squeezed the inner liner as tight against the fender as I could... It was actually quite easy to do by hand. Since then I haven't had any issues at all with rubbing up front! The rear does have some issues but it seems like the issue only occurs on the passenger rear. I've only had the driver side rear rub once or twice. Otherwise, I'm very very happy with the look and the ride. Minimal rubbing from my daily driving thus far.

As you can see the fitment is super flush - pics do not do it justice. Overall very happy!

Looks great! Are you experiencing sluggish steering at all? I'm running 275/35/19, and I noticed the steering is sluggish (doesn't like to return to center).

I think the rubbing you're getting on the passenger side rear is the little piece of metal that sticks out and in where the bumper meets the rear quarter. You can see it and feel it. That's where mine rubs also.

Updates on the fit/rubbing? I need to put some new tires on my 15' S4, crazy that they are worn out at under 12k miles. I've read that other people have had issues with the stock tires. I don't drive hard or track or anything like that.

Anyway, I have some Niche Lucerne that I had on our S5 with spacers. They have the exact same specs as your Essens. I was considering putting 255's on them but I hate stretched tires, so I was looking at 265's, not much of a selection for tires in that size. We have 275/30-R20 on our S5. That seems to be a stock size for that car, so why would it be larger than the stock size on the S4? I'm talking about overall diameter. I'd like to put the 275's on it but I'm scared it will rub, I have no idea how to roll fenders or even what that entails.

but 275 is a width measurement...not height. 275 is a *really* wide tire, which is why people are saying that it could rub.

Separately, they're also larger, in diameter. If you aren't rubbing with that setup I'd like to understand how.

That's normal. 275 is really wide, which means there's a much bigger patch of rubber on the ground at each contact point. It's going to be harder to turn the wheels in general, especially at lower speeds. It's really easy to notice with wider tires.

Tire section height (sidewall height) (30/35/40 etc) refers to a percentage of width. A 275/35 has a 1/3rd of an inch taller sidewall than a 245/35.
