Where is this piece supposed to mount?

I'm doing the coolant flange and was wondering where the top end breather hose mount for lack of a more descriptive term mounts? It has a through hole on the mount so I assumed it was bolted down to the wad somewhere.

It mounts to the top stud on the coolant flange. There should be a stud in each of the coolant flange holes that hold the coolant flange. Then each stud gets a bracket on it that's held by a nut.

I thought that was the case but it doesn't look like it would be long enough for that. So the top stud has the flange, a hardline from the intake and this hose as well?

from the head back its head -> flange -> stud nut #1 -> hardline -> stud nut #2

if you have the breather hose kit from 034 then hardline and stud nut #2 is gone.

ECS has an excellent drawing available here:

Which is how I had it but that connector for lack of a better word in the picture above has to go somewhere no?

the bracket with the hole attached to the hardline you are holding with your thumb is the only thing that fits onto stud nut #2. is that what you mean by the 'connector'?

Ok. That's what I meant but there is another hardline that comes from the left side of the motor that's connector to the airbox that mounts somewhere there as well. The silver coolant or oil line that connects to the turbo mounts to the bottom stud. You can see it in this picture circled and underlined

yea the silver oil line feeding the turbo uses the double stud to mount head -> flange -> 1st nut -> turbo oil feed line -> 2nd nut

similarly on top, the PCV system pipe feeding the PCV valve + oil adapter is bracketed like i mentioned above.

these 2 brackets are the only ones that hook up to the flange assembly.

unasked for advice: if you are doing the flange install and have used a non-oem part, stop what you are doing, un-assemble and get an OEM part. i went through 2 repairs this way due to non-oem's warping or being not evenly made. also take a full hour and clean the crap out of the back of the motor where the flange sits.

one more thing.. do not over tighten those studs in an attempt to create a better seal. 9-NM is all it takes, that is not much at all. i snapped a stud off flush with the head and was very very disappointed with myself.

It's almost like you knew what I was doing... bought a Meyle brand flange as mine was leaking and replaced it when I had valves replaced in the head. I thought I could get by with it no problem. Started leaking almost right away. Got a new o-ring and put some petroleum jelly per a local mechanic who is well off with Audi's and it leaked even worse. Contacted FCP and asked if I could return under warranty and pay the difference for OEM one which they allowed. Head was just cleaned when they replaced valves so it's nice back there.

I'm still a little confused though. There are three things that have through holes that look to mount to the head. Two small headlines including the black one in the picture above, a silver oil line from turbo and then this PCV pipe that goes to the head and combi valve.

A place between here and there

Petroleum Jelly?!?!? lmao!!! Pardon, but too hard to resist. Petroleum jelly is used more for lubrication purposes. See? Now my mind went here. I'm stopping now. LMAO!

Oh yeah, the Vasoline (unless lotion) usage is a myth, for any female readers. But when the Jergens supply goes down faster than usual...you may want to start asking real questions...if you feel where I'm...coming...from. Ok, I'm out!

My bad. You're talking about this piece:

I don't have that anymore since I put the 034 breather kit in. I can't recall if that was mounted anywhere or not. I just changed my head gasket, and I don't think there's anything it could mount to on the firewall. You are left with the upper coolant flange stud. Does it reach there nicely? Perhaps both that bracket and the other breather hose bracket are both on top of the stud between the stud nut and the free nut. I'm not really sure though.

Right. That's the connector piece I was talking about. Maybe it just floats then because it's too much of a stretch for it to make the top stud of the coolant flange
