    06A stroker, what's needed?

What all is needed to be done to stroke a 06a? I know the obvious crank, rods (not really if you think about it), and pistons. What else is needed though, does the block need clearanced for the extra rod stroke? I am getting my engine pulled soon and I need to know what all I need to do make it work.

    Thanks

Really overlooked once you have parts, is a torque plate for the overbore. Be sure you can get your hands on one for the overbore. Other than that...

-AEG/FSI crank (not sure if trigger wheel/tone ring need to be transferred, but I would have done it anyways along with oil pump gear)
-83mm bore pistons (be sure to choose correct one to coincide with valve train mods and CR of your choice)
    -144x20mm rods

And everything else after that is basically up to you (ie ARP mains studs with line hone, billet main caps, ARP head bolts/studs, IE press fit gear, etc). No need for an overbore gasket (still not sure why people insist it is necessary), no clearance issues (I do recall a particular piston having oil squirter clearance issues, though. cure was to space out the squirters with washers), no shaving of block casting, no shaving of the intermediate shaft like the 058 block, etc. Overbore with torque plate, make AEG/FSI crank like the stock stroke unit (swap trigger wheel and oil pump gear), and go at it like you would be doing a standard 1781cc build. Replace everything in there that is a wear and tear item. Things like oil squirters can be taken out and cleaned. But you need to research the pros and cons of each item you choose for your build. That makes the big difference (ie incorrect specs for JE pistons that came with pistons back in the days, and not sure if they fixed that by now).

I got wiseco pistons and am using the cast crank from a fwd jetta. Not trying for 600awhp so I am hoping it'll be safe.

Pretty sure that issue was with Super Tech 83mm pistons. Don't quote me on that, though. I want to use Wiseco pistons for my stroker too. Best bang for the buck for picky guys and very popular.

I am on built block two and have another block I want to stroker out one day. First engine I blew racing a 335i (older gentleman and car was hauling butt) and was totally my fault. Bounced off the rev limiter too many times and spun a bearing...just one. But enough to trash the crank. Very same block in my car right now, but rebuilt a second time. But it is the little things that count and why I like to pay attention to build threads. For example, seeing the finished result of a knife edged crank sent out vs doing something like buying the Eurospec one (you said you have an AEG, but you can still have it sent out to be knife edged. it will shave off a decent amount of weight).

knife edged 86.4mm (stock crank specs) out of a transverse VW. Not sure what crank, why chosen (probably forged), and is for a build not meant for the street.

The cool thing with the efr is you do not have to go past 7500 to make great power. The spool is insane and really the stroker setup is not needed with it but can not hurt.

I am seriously on the fence of keeping it or going 3071r. I have run/abused garrett turbos for sometime and never had a single issue. If an issue comes up, I can exchange it pretty easily.

What EFR you have? And what happened with those ST springs? Long time, but been busy. Cylinder head was at friend's shop for cnc port for over a year. haha. Should call him up maybe
