Is there an aftermarket spare tire that is lighter weight ?

Hi. The stock spare is so heavy. Any lighter weight options that fit in the same spot? I don't want to remove the spare.

+1 - just remove it. Unless you're driving in some very remote areas you can get someone to bring you the spare if you need or get a tow. (if you're that concerned with weight)

    Here

Lightening up the rear is going to make the already bad weight bias on this car even worse.

could knock .0001 second of your 1/4 mile time with a lighter spare tire & wheel. look, these are not 1500 pound old Lotus Elans. You'd have to shave a few hundred pounds off the car to notice any performance gains on a near 4000 pound car. even then. I can not notice any change in acceleration with an added passenger in my S4.

Last time anybody here has had to use the spare? For me, 20yrs+ of driving, I've only had to place a spare on once, and that was for my friends car.

I did in July when my wife's A5 had a rip in the tire.. she called me i went to her job and the tire was flat.. i know the tire was an issue so i had bought her a slime compressor portable kit.. .tried to put air in it and it wouldn't take.. looked at the tire it had a slash on the inside.. spare came in handy

yeah, I haven't had to use the spare on this car yet as this will only be my second winter with it, but a spare tire is very useful in MN in the winter as well. Over the course of my driving life (roughly 15 years) I've needed the spare twice, and both were in the winter.

Trying to save a little weight. But I didn't want to remove the spare cause I thought it was there to help in case of rear impact? But I guess not if the RS7 doesnt have a spare.

The spare weighs something like 10lbs? If that? How is that heavy? I remove them one handed...

Is this a performance thing or you having to lift it thing? Because the performance gains are minimal at best especially with these cars when they are so temperamental to engine heat and ambient temperature

When i go to the track I simply remove it before I go down the strip and leave it in a friends car.. or I use it to keep the canopy from flying away..

Just removed mine for weight reduction. Removed the spare wheel/tire, jack, tools, etc. Left the foam divider, and put two cans of fix-a-flat in there and a full tire repair kit with plugs and patches. Definitely removed a lot of weight from the rear. I can feel the difference back there.

I'm looking at replacing the behemoth battery with a 9.5 lb. Braille battery. I ran the 6.9 lb. Braille in a previous car with no problems, but that was a 4-cyl turbo. I'm thinking the 2.6 lb difference isn't worth losing an additional 286 cranking amps and a bit more battery capacity. From my research, the stock battery is somewhere around 50 lb. Taking another 40 lb. out would be great.

I'm not sure how removing weight from the rear would adversely affect the balance of the car. Even though the spare, jack, and battery are cantilevered out behind the rear axle, by removing it, you're not really adding anything effectively to the weight over the front axle. All you're doing is keeping the weight over the front the same, while decreasing the moment of inertia, as far as I've thought through it. No use having to accelerate additional mass in the rear. If it's lighter, it'll be more willing to rotate, and feel should be improved.

Playing devil's advocate, I don't think ADDING another 75 lb. to the trunk while keeping the stock big battery, spare, and jack would help handling.

I recently had two flats in one day. Had to miss the Drake concert cause I was sitting on I75, 2 hours from my house and 1 hour from my destination, waiting for a tow. I'd say I regularly have a flat about every 3 years. Do you replace your tires every other month?

Jeez, that's bad. Two flats, huh? Then one spare tire wouldn't have helped you anyways, lol.

I usually have to replace tires every 2-3 years. Occasionally get a nail but it's easily patched.

    Knock on wood.
