    The infamous P0089.

    Hi all,
First post here. I've been lurking for some time now trying to figure out my problem, no luck. Here's where I'm at. Hopefully someone has a suggestion on where to go from here.
    Problems

    A) Car will start after sitting overnight or for about an hour after failure.
    B) Car will not start at all.
    C) Starter can be heard attempting to start car, car will not turn over.
    D) Car will start at times and fail after a few minutes of idle. (Rough idle, approx 500-600 RPMS, then shut off.)
    E) Car will start and no problem will occur until shutting off, wait about 30 minutes, then try to start again and it fails. (Note C)
    F) Power loss when accelerating, will not shift correctly. (Only after car starts and driving is possible for a short time)

    Parts Checked/ Replaced

    LP Fuel Sensor - Replaced
    Fuel Filter - Replaced
    Cam Follower - Checked/ Ok
    Battery - Replaced
    Alternator - Checked/ Ok
    Starter - Checked/ Ok
Mass Airflow Sensor - Checked/ Ok
    Spark Plugs - Replaced
Pressure Relief Valve on HPFP - Replaced
    Fuses - Checked/ Ok

    FIXED (For the most part....)
Replaced the LP Fuel Pump. Car runs again. Now I'm still getting two codes:
    "00135 - Fuel Rail/ System Pressure - Too Low - sporadic 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded"
    "00135 - Fuel Rail/ System Pressure - Too Low - sporadic 008 - Implausible Signal"

    Any other possible suggestions?

This is what the CarMD report tells me.

Replace your lpfp in the tank. It's failing.

If you can get in touch with someone that has a vagcom cable, you can log group 232 and it should show that your low side fuel pressure isn't meeting the requested pressure.

P0089 is also a generic code. A vagcom scan will probably show a P310B.

Check your fuel lines. I was experiencing the same code replaced both pumps and sensors and was still getting the code. Had Audi check my fuel lines an they blew out a bunch or sludgy crap from the fuel lines. Haven't had my code back since (knock on wood) an it's only a couple hours labor far cheaper than replacing any parts. Wish I'd have check them sooner.

Will something like this work in place of the vagcom? https://www.amazon.com/Xtool-Vag401-...s=xtool+vag401

I'll add that to my list of things to check. If I can get it in a state that I can actually drive it I'll take it somewhere. Nearest dealership is about 20 minutes away, kind of a big deal with the way this thing has been driving.

If you replace your LPFP, make sure you replace the control module too

Does the control module usually go bad at the same time as the pump?

The newer revision LPFPs draw more current and the older control modules are not compatible with the greater current.

I would replace the pump and see how it goes. The controller typically shits the bed when you go big turbo and put a larger load on it.

Replacing the LPFP control module at the same time as the LPFP is a TSB. Not sure how recent

Disconnect it from the front of the filter and the top of the engine and blow compressed air through it. You can get the other ones by disconnecting from the pump and back of the filter.

I'll have to give that a shot as well. Unfortunately, next day off is a week away. 12 hour shifts every day and a family make getting any progress made a pain in the ass. It's been about a month and a half I've had this problem now.

I get the code from time to time. Besides getting the occasional long crank until it actually starts, Ive luckily had no other problems. This weekend I plan on doing my cam follower, low pressure fuel sensor, and fuel filter. Figured I would start there.

Well, after getting it checked you were right. Got the error 12555, same as P310B....

Next is to blow out the fuel lines and if that fails, well, it looks like its time for a new LP Fuel Pump. If blowing out the fuel lines doesn't work then I plan on replacing the pump. If just replacing the pump doesn't work then its time to replace the control module as well. I was really hoping this wasn't the issue. Not that replacing the pump is a problem, but finding the time is. Hopefully this weekend I'll have a day off and I'll be able to replace it.

Start the car and let it idol for at least 10-15 minutes. By then, You'll know if the CM likes the new pump or not. If it doesn't like it, the car will eventually shut off as if it ran out of gas.

New fuel pump installed. No kinks in the hoses. This is what I'm getting for requested rail pressure vs actual rail pressure. Does this mean I need to also replace the lp control module?

Maybe...log group 231 to see how your LPFP is doing. Good info here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ion-quot-fault

New Fuel Pump was installed. And I guess the LP Fuel sensor is the same thing as the thrust sensor according to the thread you shared.

    http://imgur.com/C1x9phg

I guess that the only thing that's left is the LP control module. The car runs great again (with the exception of needing a new diverter valve). I'm just trying to get rid of that code now. I tried to clear it and it came back right away. I don't want my car thinking it needs to overwork that pump I just installed since it's not reading the correct pressure from it.

I had a shop do it cost two hours labor. They blew air through the fuel lines after disconnecting it from the tank in the back and pump in the front.

Yeah, I've changed that as well. Called the audi dealership I got the part from and they are going to replace it for free on Tuesday.

    EDIT:
I lied, that's the LP fuel sensor on the HP pump they are replacing. If replacing that doesn't do the trick then this is my next part to replace.
