Hello! I've been a member on here for some time in another forum. I just purchased an R8 today and would be interested to hear anything you care to share about caring for one of these beasts. It's a 2012 R8 GT, number 298 of 333. Suzuka Gray and carbon fiber. The previous owner is some MLB star in Michigan. I'm picking it up on Monday with 3,300 miles on it. What do you think?

Congrats! Beautiful car! I put the VF 750 on my V10 and best thing I ever did, went from 428 at wheel horsepower to over 600. Car is a blast to drive now and full torque at just over 2k RPM. Great thing was is that I had it installed right at my local Audi Dealership by my regular R8 tech. He had never done one but said the kit is so well designed it was a piece of cake and completed the job in 5 days. Also amazing customer service from the crew at VF.

Well, it's now official. I am the proud new owner of Justin Verlander's old 2012 R8 GT! However, because the banks don't settle until midnight, I have to go back tomorrow to pick it up. I'm sure I've been this anxious before, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of those times.

Must have been in '13. Shifting sucks, but it's a lot lighter than the dual-clutch.

darrin - stop fking around and just go all the way. =) here's the baddest ass R8 on the planet running at the texas invitational last month. like yours, it's a GT! i'm not sure what tranny they put on that car, but my suspicion is that it's not the r-tronic.


if a 6 figure build is not in the cards UGR has a stage 1 turbo system that cranks out 800hp on 93oct for $32k installed (according to their website). iirc, all their builds come with a 2yr/24k mi warranty.

We didnt get the 2013 here in the states, so first year of the facelift with Stronic was 2014 for us

My question is:
I've seen tunes for the V10, but they have been for the standard 520-HP engines.
Is there a specific tune for the 560-HP GT engine?
I'd love to find about 600 HP with a stage-1 tune, if possible.

I finally got the pictures back from COTA. I don't have enough space here to post them all, but here's a taste:

This was a three-day, bucket-list weekend that I'll never forget.

I haven't updated this thread in a while, and a lot has happened...

Back in February, I hydroplaned and wrecked it. It wasn't too bad, like being rear-ended. Had to replace the bumper, diffuser, exhaust, wheel-well liner, reflector, parking sensors, etc. It didn't even scratch the tail lights or body, so I feel very lucky in that aspect. Even though the damage was all aesthetic, it totaled $44K. Turns out, the bumper cover for the 2012 5.2 R8 is $1,620. However, the GT bumper cover is $15K. That matte CF diffuser is $9,600! These two items, alone, warrant retrofitting a backup camera. For the exhaust, I went with the QuickSilver valved model specific for the GT. I'll be getting the car back later this week. . .can't wait!

My new wheels have also been completed, at least the first phase. I'm planning to get the centers hydro-dipped in a white CF, which matches the Suzuka Grey (at about 20 feet away).



I went with the red rims because it ties in with the other GT red emblems & piping, yet subtly, as they'll be less noticeable with the tires mounted. I think the white CF will look really good with it, but it will be at least another month after I get them before they're mounted. What do you think?

These are 19x9+44 and 19x12+54 with 255/35 and 325/30, respectively. I didn't want any poke or rub and it's right on the mark. I'm going to drive it for awhile before I decide if the suspension can be lowered. The GT's have height-adjustable springs OEM.

The next thing to do is to have the old clear bra removed. It is getting discolored and is a pain in my ass. I plan to have it stripped off, paint correction, and then have the whole car re-wrapped.

Looks real nice! When you say re-wrapped do you mean in pff or are you planning on doing a vinyl wrap to change the color? If you're planning on doing the ppf I highly recommend you consider doing a ceramic coating instead. My dad wrapped his R8 in ppf and just got a Tesla and did a Ceramic Coating on that. After looking at the two side by side I can say the ceramic coating wins in every category. With the ceramic coating the car keeps its shine especially well where as even with a good ppf you can sorta tell there is a clear wrap on top. Additionally running your hand over the pant it is so smooth and the water pretty much rolls right off the body of the car. It should also last at least 7 years and you don't have to worry about discoloration.
