What went wrong (or broke) on your B5 today?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Saw a thread like this in the b6 section and figured why not have one for the b5 people as well?

I'll start off with this. Out of no where I open my hood to check on something and come to see my coolant bottle pissing coolant out of no where. Luckily a local parts store had one in stock. Got it replaced and she's good to go.

    Nothing broke today luckily

PSA: If you coolant reservoir is yellow like that from old age you should probably replace it before this happens.

Oh I absolutely agree. I knew it was time. Just wasn't expecting it the way it happened.

Yea it was weird. Had a bad cap so replace it. After that is when it happened. Guess the extra pressure finished it off. Who knows

I can't keep intercooler pieces together. They either blow off at 40psi, or they rub from the engine bucking so hard. Fixed this turd yesterday morning.

Holy shit. Is your engine bucking because of bad mounts or something?

Gigantic turbo, no lift shifting, and terrible pipe angle placement to begin with lol, my fault. I have new OEM mounts on the engine and trans, but they're worthless. Need solid mounts.

Yea I would say so. Do you have a build thread? Would love to see some pictures of the turbo setup and such.

Nice, looks like a lot of work. How do you like it? Im sure its fun, besides the fact that the piping is no good.

Hey B5ers. Any idea what would cause hard starting, 3-4 cranks, when the engine is cold? Got a new fuel filter and newer pump installed. Also what is the preferred way of replacing wheel bearings? Split the bearings, or remove whole spindle and bring to a shop? Any help appreciated.

Remove the whole knuckle probably. I think they make a tool to do it on the car though.

I'm actively watching pixels on my LCD screen go out, and the valve cover gasket only leaks when Im not looking under the hood. PCV works, im just putting up with it now.

Haha. That's the way it always is. I have an issue where full throttle it bogs down but only sometimes. I think honestly it's a shitty tune not fueling enough for the amount of boost. Or clogging injectors. Who knows. Oh the joys of owning a b5 right?

Fort the fronts, I took the entire upright to my machine shop. Hubs need to be pressed from the bearings, and bearings from the upright. Maybe they do make something a guy do it at home, but piss on that without a press.

Still running the turbo brace? Mine kept doing this on my Franketurbo until I switched to ARP bolts, then I later modified the stock brace to fit around my AN fittings for the Franken.

Had that cross-member removed to upgrade bushings a long time ago, must not have torqued them to spec...

Luckily I noticed the noise immediately.

Was actually reading something the other day about how higher stage tunes actually loosen turbo bolts due to higher egts.

I can attest to that. Also it warped my test pipe.

More like higher stage tunes cause exhaust leaks.
