Question 5th gear & reverse gear lock

Anyone have experience with this device on an AEB Manual 1999.5 B5 A4?
I was having issues with a sloppy shift pattern, so I rebuilt my shift assembly with a new ball housing and set it back up per the Bentley Manual. Now I can't get into Reverse. I picked the brain of the mechanic at the Audi dealership and he has never had to work on such an issue (20 years working on Audis).
I have the metal shifter housing assembly not the plastic one piece of the later model B5s. I have adjusted the ball housing to pivot the maximum adjustment in order to try to get the reverse gear to engage to no effect. While going through the Bentley I read about the gear lock and was hoping someone that might have some experience with it could chime in.

A place between here and there

With the car off, see if you have any issue getting in and out of any gear. Of no, then I would suspect either your throw out bearing or pilot bearing being the issue. Taking a guess here, but had a similar issue prior. Not exact, but similar.

My pilot bearing was beyond time for a replacement. Did that and TO bearing same time. Fixed it, but tranny was already shot by then and swapped that out after I lost 2nd or 3rd gear. Prior to that, one of those was already gone and drove without that gear for a while (bad tranny internals since ownership. years before it took its plunge to the pointvod no return).
I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like a bitch

I did a short shift kit swap so would imagine it would be the same. Lock it into revers when doing the bolts for the linkages which means you can get 1-5 and r make sure to lock tight it on bolts that you don't want coming loose as you have to do it again
