Anybody regret upgrade to stage 2?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I have a 2015 S6 currently with a stage 1 ecu/tcu tune. I wanted improved sound so I thought I would do downpipes rather than exhaust. So, anyone regret doing this? Any concerns regarding drivetrain durability/reliability?

There is not much difference in sound on a c7, not sure about 7.5

I dont regret it, it's nice having the extra power

I'm assuming the difference in sound would be if the C7.5 had the sport exhaust vs the C7 having the regular?

I've never regretted adding power to a car *unless* it shifts the power band away from where I drive most. Any of that go on with stage 2?

If you get the downpipes and regret it, let me know and I'll graciously take them off your hands.

Which downpipes for stage 2 are you considering? I was thinking of the AMS, due to the stock location & large quality cats, but they are the most expensive. I would expect the APR setup to be a little louder, since the cats are downstream.

AMS? Alpha Performance 2012+ Audi C7 S6/S7 Downpipes

APR? APR Cast Downpipe Exhaust System for the 4.0 TFSI

    Unitronic? Unitronic Downpipes(UH013-EXA)

    Milltek? Hi-Flow Sports Cats

I have the unitronic and for the price I can't complain

If it were between apr and ams I would go for the apr and save the money

As long as you have the tune to go along with it you don't throw coiffed but may have issues passing emissions testing

We have installed several sets of APR DPs (14 sets) on C7/C7.5 S6/S7/RS7 cars and every single customer has had nothing but good things to say. The power increase and slight rasp added to the stock exhaust noise is addicting. You can't go wrong. We have a couple of sets in stock and can offer you free shipping. PM me if interested.

i thought that at first but its really not easy to notice that they are aftermarket as they are mostly hidden under the engine cover

I want to do it, but no one seems to have an established method of attaching the APR downpipes to a Milltek exhaust.

any competent shop that can do welding should be able to do it easily

i know RSW was able to do it for chudiddy_s6 and attach the apr downpipes to his awe exhaust

Once the cover comes off however, I think it is blatantly obvious, especially when you have APR logo sitting at the top. Don't know why APR did that.

Plus, does anyone have issues running DPs when flashed back to stock? Does it throw an engine light?

Yeah, with the aftermarket downpipes, it is pretty obvious that the car has been modified.

This is also my ONLY issue with going to stage 2. My S6 is my DD and needs to pass OBD based emissions testing. Everything must read as ready, and be in spec. I believe the code that is thrown if you run a stock tune with DP is "cat efficiency below threshold", or something like that. I currently just put it into stock mode for testing and all is well.

Does anyone know if the APR pipes have O2 sensor spacers built into the design for the post cat sensors?

I live in Texas where they are quite strict on emissions. If you put the catted DP's on the car, it will still pass, just like stock. It won't pass if you install DPs WITHOUT cats.

As the debate continues, Audi can pretty much TD1 you for anything. However, there are a lot of dealers/techs that will not flag you for any exhaust/intake mods if they retain factory-like components. For example, my tech will not flag me for aftermarket DPs IF they are catted, like factory. If I were to install DPs without cats, it would be flagged TD1, because it would no longer pass emissions in my state. Always a good idea to check with your tech beforehand. At least in my experience.

I have had APR Stage 2 for over 6k miles on my 2013 S6. I have no regrets about the upgrade. The power increase is incredible. I also have the Transmission chip and the power delivery is smooth as stock with very quick shifts.
Only complaint is that I get some exhaust smell outside the car, especially when its sitting.
Considering going stage 3, but not sure the gains are there to justify the cost. I'm very happy.

Aside from a little bit of increased drone from the cats being relocated directly under the seats (had to extend the downpipes to mate to AWE exhaust), no regrets here. Love it.

Do you think that drone is attributed to a combination of the DPs and your AWE exhaust? I guess I'm wondering if anyone has put on APR DPs with stock exhaust and not experienced drone.

I had the APR downpipes and stage 2 done recently on my RS7 and love it!! The power is incredible and the sound is sweet as well. I have talked to a few people and after putting the downpipes in I feel like the car produces a wicked sound/crackle that I turned away from putting a new exhaust on.
