    RPM Issue

    Hey All,

So I was just going out for a nice fall drive. I was going down a little hill when all of a sudden my RPMS out of the blue climbed to 5-6-7 thousand RPMS and the car had no power. It jolted forward a couple of times before I pulled over turned off the car and turned it back on to then have no issue. I brought it to my local Autozone where there were no codes. My initial thought was a TC. Background on the car. 149,000 miles 2007 tiptronic. Stage 1 JHM. Turbo replaced 3 months ago. First time this issue has reared itself. Any advice and hints would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ever changed the tranny fluid? Or checked it?

    It's called 'engine braking'.

5-7k on a slight decline is not 'engine braking'

Yea, no offense, but it was definitely not engine breaking. I haven't changed the tranny fluid since I owned the car from 100k miles. Tranny fluid was also a thought of mine, to me a faulty TC would create such a drastic random increase in RPM but I could be wrong

    * faulty TC would not create such a drastic change.

IF you're holding lightly on the brake it will do this by shifting down gears, brake harder and see if the rpm drops. If it does, that is normal.

Mine goes up that high when I'm coming down from the Malibu canyons, up to about 5K sometimes. It wasn't steep but then I'm coming down down pretty high elevations. I have fresh fluid.

I did try pumping the break as I've experienced the normal engine braking and downshifting but this time it did not do anything.
