    New S4 ECM Software Recall/Update

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While in for my 35k maintenance I was informed there was a ECM software update that was recently sent out for my car. The dealership asked if my car was tuned(it's not yet) as this would wipe the tune and potentially flag my car as TD1.

SOFTWARE UPDATE DETAILS FROM DEALERSHIP INVOICE:
    24C0 ECM SOFTWARE Tech(s):1141 WARRANTY
-Open recall 24C0 W-recall-ecm software update
    -Criteria 01
-Recall 24C0. Damage code 0099. Parts Vendoe Code 002.
    -Connected battery charger. Labor OP 2706 89 50. 10 T.U.
-Performed software update. Labor OP 2470 25 99. Time Stated
    -In diagnostic protocall ( MAX 50 T.U.)

I usually have my laptimer screen displayed to keep an eye on the oil temp to know when my engine is finally good and warmed up. I was expecting the laptimer and other VCDS changes I made to be wiped by the update but when I got my car back from the dealer my laptime screen was still selected like nothing happened?

I already have suspicions of this dealership not doing their due deligence during scheduled maintenance. They failed to recognize that my headlights need to be adjected and that my wipers leave streaks. I also never receive a report of the results of the inspect on my car. I have a feeling they just change the oil(if they even do that) and call it a day.

Anybody else get this ECM software update? Should I expect more inspection results from my stealership or just take their word for it?

    Thanks,
    -A

Old news buddy, tons of people have gotten the letter and had the service done. Theres a couple long threads going on about it.

    Edit,

You should get an inspection sheet with a bunch of check marks on it but that doesn't mean they did it. I suspect my dealer doesn't do everything either.

I am sitting at my dealer getting it done right now. Doubt I will notice a difference.

Shouldn't I expect my laptimer and other VCDS programming to be factory reset?

I have a feeling they didn't do much of anything. I wish I marked my oil filter somehow. They did indeed replace the cabin filter tho.

I haven't had my S4 updated but with previous cars that have had vag-com tweaks and needed ecm updates, I have never had them reset. I believe all vag-com tweaks are stored in different modules

My s4 went in for service last week, they performed the recall and all my tweaks were untouched. I watched them do the service so I know it was done

I agree that in a perfect world the tech would check all these things but they don't - nor would I expect them to - especially headlight aim. It's your car and if you noticed these things needing adjustment you should bright it to their attention pro-actively or confirm with them the work will be done. If there are things on the service I don't want them doing I also call those out...

BTW - you can aim the headlights yourself in about 30 seconds.

If your vag-com tweaks disappear after an ECU update its because the tech personally felt the need to go else where to wipe your changes

Good to know. thought it was just the update that did it. Was a little annoyed but now im kinda mad they went out of their way to annoy me. Will take it to a different dealer next time.

you can also tell your SA before hand you have made changes and you would prefer if they did not wipe them out. After my first appointment my SA told me they noticed the changes and did not touch them.. i told her thanks
