    Project Fi and Audi Connect

This has to be relatively new because I just saw it the other day when looking at combining my wife's plan with mine.
Project Fi now offers a data-only SIM for 10$/GB. If you are a current user, it's free and there is no monthly connection fee for it- just pay for what you use. This has to be the cheapest way to get data in the car.. personally I use about 100- 300mb in a month maximum with GE running, which would be 1$-3$.. Only other thing you needed is a sim adapter since they only offer nano sim cards. I got mine here:. Gold Samdi Brand Nano Sim Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HSOUQXM..._6Bjfyb7B24Y50

Cool, just ordered my S5, and I'm a google Fi customer.

Was there anything special you needed to do?

Just follow the directions and set the APN in your car to h2g2. Keep in mind the data only SIM runs on T-mobile so depending on your car's cellular hardware, you may connect to 2G, 3G, or LTE. T-mobile is maintaining their 2G network until 2020 so in my S7 even with the updated hardware for 3G service, it connects to 2G most of the time and sporadically 3G.

So just got my new 2018 S5. Apparently it comes with an eSIM. I didn't see any mention of a SIM slot in the documentation...

    Might this be a problem??

The newer models have done away with the user accessible SIM cards. Just one more reason the C7.5 is the car to get, in my eyes, from the S6 standpoint.

As far as SIM cards go, I have 3 Freedompop LTE SIM cards, free, 700mb per month. No need to spend money on data if you play the Freedompop game. Just make sure you turn off all the features and services.

What do you know, looked in the glove box of my new 2018 S5 and there it is! SIM slot.

When the time comes I'll give this a shot!

Though I think the current audi connect is using AT&T and not T-Mobile. Problem?

Very interesting! I was told that the new A4 has an integrated SIM card and assumed it would have carried over to the A5. From a quick look there might be some tweaking to make a SIM card work in that slot for data but it sounds like its possible. Great news for the newer cars.

I had the free 6 month trial with my S6 - when it ran out they had the 1GB for 10 a month option which was perfect. Then suddenly they took it away and replaced it with the $20-per month plan. So far I have never used over 1GB. I don't really care about the 20 - but its a waste. I have never quite understood the process of the SIMs. It seems you guys buy other branded SIM cards with various data plans. So any SIM will work with the Audi MMI?

Do you just purchase the SIM, set the account, then insert it? I'm assuming you have to set it up thru the MMI again.

So how did this work exactly? I see that there are a couple of AudiConnect plans; Prime and Plus. Looks like Prime is all the data connection for the car, and Plus is for the Wifi hotspot.

Do you let those plans expire, and then somehow when you add your own SIM you get them back?

Is there any kind of a pre-paid option? I pay about $225/mo for cell coverage already with Verizon, hate to have to sign up somewhere else to do this.
