Engine swap on 06 A4 bpg to bwt engine couple hiccups Fixed UPDATE

Hello everyone, just got done doing a engine swap on a 06 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0t 6sp manual. Used the ecu that was in the car, the ecu has a APR stage 1 tune. Engine I put in there is a bwt with 50,000 miles. Engine removed was a bpg. I've put about 100 miles on the car. I have a wifi OBD2 plug in with OBD fusion app for my iPhone for basic code and dash readings

    Problems

    1. Car never gets above 160 degrees system is filled and no air bubbles. Got good heat.
I've got code P2181 cooling system performance. I'm pretty sure my thermostat is stuck partial open. Just bought one today. Not my big concern.

    2. Got code P0299 turbo/super charger underboost. I'm pretty sure I have a slight leak somewhere. If I punch it in the lower gears I get spikes of 23 psi and drops to around 16 but then it will just drop to nothing. Sometimes if I'm around 2500rpm and applying gas it will hold around 6 psi then just bam down to 0 and then will start building again. I made a diy boost leak tester. Can't check for leaks until I'm off on Monday. Also bwt engine had stock diverter valve with the early revision.

    3. This is the one that I'm worried about. Got the famous P2293 fuel pressure regulator code. First thing I did was check the follower and it was silver on top but no damage and the camshaft looked good, replaced follower with a new one.
I'm assuming this code is my performance problem. I can run the car high into the rpm in the lower gears well I was shifting around 5500 and get good acceleration. But if I'm going 60 in 6th gear and I need to pass and drop it into 4th it will jump up to around 4000 rpm but won't increase rpm or speed at all just sits there screaming and don't gain no speed. ! Even with the pedal to the floor. I have more acceleration staying in 6th.
According to the OBD reader my fuel rail pressure stays right around 1250 psi, don't take a nose dive or anything. I replaced the one fuel pressure sensor on the side of the hpp with the one from the other engine it made no difference. Didn't try the top one yet.

My girlfriend has a 07 Audi A4 2.0 Quattro except automatic with the bwt engine. Her car runs and drives fine. So I have a car that I can rob parts to try and figure this out. Thinking maybe the apr tune being programmed to a bpg engine is causing issues. I don't have the option to go back to stock tune. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks everyone one for your input and time

Bwt has a different fuel pressure sensor. I can't remember which one it is but if you just installed it from your bpg then your ECU is going to be very confused.

I think your right about that. I was doing some research this weekend and found someone that did the same type of motor swap as me. Was having the same symptoms as me. He replaced the fuel pressure sensor that's on the rail from his bpg engine to his new installed bwt and it fixed it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Been working all weekend. I'm off tomorrow and will be swapping them.

    Update

Coolant performance code was due to my thermostat opening around 140 degrees, replaced it. No longer getting code and temp is right in the middle :)

While I was down there I noticed my diverter valve electrical plug came unplugged. I plugged it back in and secured it with zip ties. I'm still getting the P0299 code but it's not dropping boost like it was and will hold it. 90% better :) still need to do a boost leak test noticed my one intercooler where the sensor is has oil around the bottom.

Now the big problem of the fuel cuts and going into limp mode and getting P2293 code. I decided to replace the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail with the one from the old bpg engine. The sensors are definitely different, different part numbers and length. Even tho when you look up part numbers from the dealer they say it's the same sensor for both engines. It's fixed no fuel cuts and is pulling hard and no code anymore.

Awesome! glad it was just that dumb sensor.

as far as P0299 could be a bad DV. They're pretty cheap so playing parts darts with that isn't the end of the world.

Yeah I'm excited that sensor fixed it. I can live with chasing that one code down lol I'm ordering a new diverter valve, car having the original early ones and me having apr stage one don't help lol
