So I was looking for a new PCV valve. Is the consensus that that it "HAS TO BE OEM" the only way to go?

ECS seems to have a bunch of different brands.

I've heard similar things... I grabbed an OEM one from ECS a while ago, haven't had time to install it. Something else that my mechanic mentioned is rebuild kits to replace the diaphragm inside of them. I haven't seen them, but I've known my mechanic for 20+ years and he's never steered me in the wrong direction.

Anyone else seen a rebuild kit? I figure with 2 OEM you can flip flop by rebuilding the one out of service.

Good timing - I just bought a Meyle brand to replace the OEM, just because that's what the vendor had. I cleaned out the old one and huffed and puffed in both and couldn't tell any difference. I don't think the old one is broken - I just bought the new one "in case". Judging by what it looks like inside, I could probably swap the diaphragm between the two

The issue is definitely that they get gummed up... I'm wondering if a catch can helps much with this...

ALL NON AUDI PCV ARE POOP.

Honestly they all start quacking after no time.

It's really one of those parts where you want the real thing.

Sent from the S that used to tap
My S used to have a tap, a valve slap... now it makes no noise at all! RIP

Audi is the by far the one I have seen that, without question is not worth ANY savings to buy the aftermarket alternative for factory maintenance/ replacement parts. If it's they are so well engineered/ built that the slightest deviation in aftermarket part mfg causes improper function or that the aftermarket for our cars is just plain crap and worse then for others, that is subject for debate.

As much as one would think the explanation is just the crap aftermarket parts for ours, I personally believe its the latter. Seeing as many of the aftermarket parts are from Germany, but also studying and understanding the design intent, tolerancing, and quality control involved in the Audi/ VAG brands; I think it just is a factor of the tighter tolerancing and less accountability for deviation. I do believe some of the aftermarket is higher quality, just our brand isn't engineered to deviate far from original design specs. (But it definitely doesn't help to have pure garbage aftermarket in some cases though.)
