    Automatic Transmission Issue

    Hey guys

A little background on the vehicle: It's a B6 2005 Audi S4 Automatic/Tiptronic with 150000+ miles on it. Never had any tranmission issues since I've owned it (purchased 2013 with 70000 miles) and no history of any.

Recently came back from a round trip MD to NJ from last weekend. I recently went to 255/35/19 tires for the last couple months and no rubbing issues (at least I thought). Well one of my tires in the front had a leak and so I went to take it off and noticed a slit in the inner wall of the tire. It was rubbing with the control arm so I put the spare on the car (the 18 inch spare the car came with). No bueno as I heard a lot of noise and crackling when I tried to drive with the spare. I only went 10 feet and decided it wasn't going to be drivable so I tried to turn around and move the car back to where it was. Well when I tried to go in reverse the car wouldn't move. Switched to drive, still wouldn't move. I had to push the car back to the spot I wanted it. The car runs great but will not go in gear.

I really hope it's not a major issue but I think it is. Anyone ever heard of such an issue? I currently got the car towed to an Audi dealership. One of the service reps thinks it might be a coding issue?

    I don't believe the S4 B6 ever came with a 17 inch whee/tire...

Do you have vcds? If yes scan it, probably trans went into safe mode. If not disconnect the battery overnight and see if it still wont go into gear. And yeah b6 came with 18" spare, at least mine did.

Typo on the spare, 18" is correct. I do not have vcds, and it's currently at the dealer. I will give an update on what they find, and I should mention to them that it could possibly be in fail safe mode.

    Thanks guys
