Light gray steering wheel with paddles for 2009?

Been searching a bit on wheel swaps but have not found my answer... hoping someone experienced can help a newbie out.

I have a 2009 non-S-Line A4 with light gray interior and a 4-spoke squarish center steering wheel that I am wanting to swap out for a paddle-shift equipped wheel. Does a light gray OEM wheel with paddles exist that is close to my interior color or do I need to just settle for a dark gray or other color wheel? My 2009 has fairly simple controls on the wheel and all the light gray wheels that I've seen, apparently from newer model years, have more controls on the wheel that may not work with my car. Trying to figure out which wheels from which years I can use... just like everyone else... I know, I know.

Thanks in advance for any help and sorry if I missed obvious info as I know there are a number of steering wheel threads.

you can use any wheel from B7 (2005.5) to 2012 (b8 prefacelift). You can use 2013 to 2016 if you buy a new airbag. The ones from 2010 to 2012 have chrome trim around the buttons but are otherwise the same, and are interchangable with your wheel. IIRC there are no paddles for light grey.

Got it. FYI - I am currently looking at a 2014 S5 gray 3-spoke wheel with paddles and round center/airbag right now. Since the 2014 wheel's two wheel spoke-mounted control modules (vol, hands-free, etc) are different than the ones from my 2009, do you know if I can swap my 2009 4-spoke units into the 2014 3-spoke wheel?

Your help is much appreciated, thanks.

    andyroxs -

When you say that I'd have to buy a new airbag with a newer wheel, is that because the shape of the newer wheel center is different than mine, or because even if I found a new wheel+air bag combo, the newer airbag would not be compatible with my 2009?

It's that the shape of the pre-FL airbag is different than the FL airbag. The newer wheel will be compatible.

Do you think that I can swap my controls into this 2014 wheel? It has a working airbag with it...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-today/page443 See post #17697. Top is your current controls, pic below is 2013+ controls. Not even close to similar.

Okay thanks. That makes it pretty obvious. I'm answering local "parting-car" ads so usually no close-up wheel pics until I request them. Now if I could find one like the top but with paddles, I'd be set. Any idea how I would identify what that would be?

facelift wheel controls will work on a pre-facelift car, you just need to make sure you get a wheel with controls intended for a 4/5 (the controls for the 3, 6, 7, and 8 are different).

    Will work:

Anyone know if there is such a thing as a 3-spoke sport or s-line wheel in 2009 in dark gray?

If the answer is Yes, anyone know what the part number would be, so that I can search for one? I've searched a fair amount and come to the conclusion that I'm not going to find a dark gray 4-spoke wheel with paddles (so that I can use my existing 4-spoke airbag). So now I'm looking for a 2009ish 3-spoke sport or s-line in gray or black with an airbag included. I want something that looks decent with my 2009 "light gray" interior. My current wheel is dark gray, definitely not black - I'm thinking a black wheel will stick out and not look good, hence the search for a dark gray wheel. I'm having trouble figuring out what my color options are for any compatible wheels... maybe black is my only choice.

Just bought a 2008 4-spoke with paddles. I'm planning on using the airbag from my current 4-spoke. I believe both are 2-stage with the same mounting but we'll soon see.

Agate Gray 2008 4-spoke wheel with paddles swapped in perfect and allowed me to use my existing airbag. Install was easy and all buttons work fine. All electrical connections fit and the new wheel looks identical with the exception of the hands-free button icon. Haven't coded paddles on yet but looking for VAG-COM to do so - hoping they work fine too.

Thanks to all for the input.

    Lance
