    Power steering issues

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys so I am wondering if anyone knows what might be going on with my steering. So since I bought the car used it has a had a stuttering when turn the wheel to the left and if I crack the wheel all the to either side I get the groaning sound. Also I have attached a photo to show that around my power steering fluid reservoir there is a thin layer around it. I am willing to replace the power steering pump and high pressure hose but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and what they did? Thanks

It was a recall for power steering hoses. Perhaps somebody can add more info. but I remember that my car has a stuttering when turning the wheel while car was either parked or at very low speed.
    Recall fixed it.

How long is the recall for?

There is a TSB 2020332/7. It calls for the replacement of the power steering hose with an updated part. It's covered under warranty (if you still have it).

Interestingly enough, not to drag this back up.

I had my hose replaced about 6 months ago under Audi Certified Warranty.
It was fine up until about 1 month ago. Started doing it again,
Took it in, they said not a safety issue and they couldn't duplicate.
I took it back 2 days later and had a discussion, they agreed to look again.
    here is the response:

The A4 inspection is now complete. My shop foreman did all of the re-inspect work and rechecking. I was in the vehicle this morning for the cold start recheck when the vehicle was started up and driven. I have attached a copy of the repair order with all of the notes and findings. I was also in the two vehicles that were used for like comparison testing. The feeling you are concerned about is quite normal for this model and can be duplicated rather easily on like Audi vehicles. The information I received from Audi was good, however the boot seal is not at fault on this vehicle and does not need replacement.

I do want to assure you that the vehicle steering operation is safe and is not showing any signs of component failure.

I did have the vehicle washed up just now and I will be handing over the repair order to Robert Spah for completion.

If you would like, I will gladly take you in a similar vehicle to compare when you come in to pick up your vehicle. There were three here yesterday – I will check the lot today. Usually have one or two on the lot.

    Sincerely,

I call bulls**t on this deal.

Here are the notes on the work order

,,,,VEHICLE DURING ALL STAGES AND CONFIRMED (WITH HIS 30 YEARS OF AUDI
,,,,EXPERIENCE) THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS MODEL WITH A
,,,,FLUID PUMP STEERING SYSTEM. THERE IS NO DETRIMENT TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO
,,,,THIS FEELING THAT IS PRODUCED UNDER THE ONLY CONDITION THAT IT OCCURS

,,,,CARS TESTED FOR COMPARISON HAD ALL SEASON TIRES AND DID HAVE LIKE
,,,,'STUDDER' WHEN TESTING. CONCLUSION IS THAT BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE,
,,,,THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS VEHICLES OPERATION

I'm not happy at all...I believe they are avoiding this because it is a warranty item hoping I'll go away

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

I have the shudder when backing into my garage or parallel parking. I have a 2011 with the updated power steering hose and the Audi dealership said nothing was wrong with the hose or bushings. They said they could replace the hose and bushing but that it ultimately would be a $900 guess. Very annoying to have an issue like this be called normal, especially in a 'luxury brand' vehicle.

I'm thinking of going to a different Audi dealership and seeing what they say.

I'm having a similar problem. Wheel does not want to return to center after a turn, and it stutters when making slight turn at lower speeds. Problem worsens with colder weather

I have a pretty major stutter with my steering system at low speeds also. It's intermittent, but its usually always there, intermittently gets much worse. Took it to the dealer, they never found anything (if they even looked). Mine's a 2012, with the supposed updated power steering line.

I'm bringing it to an independent Audi shop next week, theyre going to perform a complete power steering check and hopefully it will solve the problem.

Some others have said that if your motor mounts are collapsed, a part of the motor can be sitting on the PS line which doesnt allow the fluid to go through as quickly. Food for thought.....

Does anyone know the P/N on the updated line?
