    Small oil leak guidance

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi Guys, just curious if you can tell me what might be causing the small oil leak I have at the front of the engine. You can see it pooling up at the small area that has a place to clip on the hose. Looks like it might be coming from the round sensor in the front (I'm guessing to do with the cams but I have 0 clue about these motors) I know the 2.7t inside and out though.. lol. I did clean the area up a couple days ago and lo and behold more oil has pooled in that location.

bump, can anyone at least tell me what the round plate/sensor is on the front? Is it sealed by an o-ring? Anything will help fellas!
    Thanks,

According to my manual, that plate holds the camshaft adjustment valve and there is an o ring seal behind it. No part number is shown.

    That's your cam's adjustment magnet.

    OEM:

    Aftermarket:

I am not sure if they come with the o-rings, nor of the PN for the o-ring.

Thanks guys! Yup, definitely leaking from that seal behind the cam adjustment magnet. I'll probably snag the aftermarket one. It looks like ECS replied to someone that the o-ring for it is this part# WHT007212

It doesn't show Audi fitment but I'm guessing it's one in the same?

This will probably be the easiest part I replace on this car.. hey at least cosmetically it'll look better and no oil leak will definitely be a plus!

I'm not sure on the seal part, but if that's what they recommend and you're still unsure, I would call your local dealer to confirm. Another note, I've recently noticed that some parts on ECS' site show as "TSI only"; while we have TSFIs, so I called them to ask when I picked up a new water pump to be safe. ECS let me know that it didn't matter for my water pump, and that the TSFI and TSI were the same but under different branding, so you may just want to confirm the PNs with your dealer cross referencing your VIN.

Thanks a ton, I'll definitely cross check. Can anyone look up the torque specs for the three torx bolts that hold on the magnet? Again, thanks for the help guys!

Figured I'd follow up and let you guys know I replaced the Camshaft Adjuster with the updated revision: 06J109259A, O-ring seal: WHT007212 and updated connector: 4H0973702A

All is well, no oil leaking anymore (it was a pretty significant leak, though it doesn't looks like it), part looks MUCH better than the old rusty one (black ABS) and took about 30mins... one of the Torx bolts gave me hell and needed to be replaced after I was done with it.. lol
